Strikeouts.

May 31, 2022, 12:46 PM

I hate them. With a passion. And, I know, the totals are going up in the major leagues, too. Butt, just because THOSE lemmings are running off THEIR cliff doesn't mean our guys should follow them over the edge of OURS.

Strikeouts in and of themselves are bad enough, but the ones that seem to be really increasing are what I call the "bad guesses" ones. I mean the ones where the hitter is seemingly halfway through his swing before the pitcher has even released the ball, and the bat misses it by a FOOT or more. Especially swings on 55 foot balls that bounce up to home plate. Batters HAVE to be guessing instead of actually looking at the pitch, to swing at pitches like that.

The only thing worse than that has usually happened next. We stand there with bat on shoulder and take Strike Three right down Broadway without even offering at it. Again, guessing wrong, instead of seeing what is coming your way.

We for sure need to look around and at least find a successful Hitting Coach for Clemson baseball, if we are not going to clean house. Players like Caden Grice (just to name an obvious example, he is not alone by a long shot) seem to show a complete lack of development in that area from one season to the next. I am a firm believer in that old adage "If you keep putting the bat on the ball, eventually, good things will happen." We have seen, the last two seasons, that the opposite is also true. If you keep NOT putting the bat on the ball, BAD things will eventually happen. Over and over again.

Help, Powers that Be, HELP!

We were taught in Little League to choke up on the bat with 2 strikes and at least make contact. WE are in dire need of a hitting and pitching coach. If we retain Monte and don't make changes in those 2 areas, next year will be more of the same. If you keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results ......................

This isn't little league.

Any ball put in play in little league could be a home run...

Fielding is a little better at the college level.

Agree. We could learn a lot from coastal and/or SC upstate.
