So my son's football team has no OL and in his game Saturday

Sep 24, 2014, 9:28 PM

They had him line up under center every down and he got killed. He was so beat up. FYI we bought extra pads after we watched the first few practices. This week they are practicing shot gun. Just saying... relying on the coaches to keep my kid safe.

i'm assuming you are talking little league?

If so... one thing about that age is that it's tough to find a true OL. You typically end up with some of your "skill guys" playing on the OL, just to get them on the field.

The same is true all the way up through middle school, in some areas...

Not sure how old yours is, but, as I coach, I'm not sold I will even let mine play. I know this bored will blast me for that. Now, mine are still under 7, and haven't asked...

but i've seen a lot, and i'm not just talking about getting hurt...

I hope your son does well... i'm sure he will

Yep. He's 11. Playing QB under weight.

Dan Marino and Bernie Kosar used to

put their right foot back when they were under center. You still see it some today.

It helped them get out quicker, as they were already a half turn out...

If he's left handed, put his left foot back.

you know, if the gun doesn't work ;)

That makes me laugh because my favorite QB of all time was Dan Marino (child of the 80s) and I've often told my son to watch video of Dan. Maybe I need to sway him, though I will have to do some serious backtracking in that respect.

I'm sure Chip will keep him safe.

on the same team lol. We did the same thing with no line. We went from loss of 1 to 2 yards to loss of 5 to 10 yards.

How do you gain? They won't run a pass play. He's down before he can hand off.

solution for your coach to improve the OL and help your son

Sep 25, 2014, 9:47 AM

...have the coach rotate the OL players at QB next game and let them get crushed
