For All Of You GOPe Useful Idiots. Keep Electing Them. They

WILL ALWAYS BETRAY YOU.
The problem for the Republican party writ large is that the Cochran-type does not seem like an outlier. People do not see the GOP as a party out to make the government “smaller and smarter,” to “celebrate success, entrepreneurship, and innovation.” They certainly do not see think it is trying to “lift up the middle class.” the Republican party says one thing to get elected, then does another once elected. It pledges on the campaign trail to reduce the scope of government, but in Washington, D.C. it perpetuates the Leviathan, often in support of well-heeled interest groups.
Cochran is a classic example of the disconnect. He has been in the Senate for nearly forty years. To what lasting conservative triumph is his name attached? I cannot think of any, nor can I think of any fight against the liberal agenda in which he was a crucial ally. Instead, his claim to fame – as he proudly advertised during the campaign – was leveraging his seniority to steer government largesse to Mississippi.
They see a party that perpetuates and expands government as it suits them, often to the benefit of the well-heeled interest groups that have descended upon the nation’s capital.
The party’s leaders need to ask themselves: if their purpose is to perpetuate interest group liberalism, why should anybody vote for them? There is already a party whose central purpose is to carve up the federal pie for its clients/voters. It is called the Democratic party, and nobody does interest group liberalism better than it does.

I am with you on limiting the influence of special interest groups and lobbyist influence in DC, I am sure everyone on this board is saave a few. But what makes you think that any "non-establishment" Republican we send off to DC is not going to get corrupted by the system like every one before them?
At what point are you going to start blaming the and offering solutions to our current campaign finance ########### and stop expecting Politicians to solve our problems for us?
To keep applying bandages to a gaping wound and expecting a different result sounds a little crazy to me.

I don't expect pols. to solve problems. They have a poor track record. I don't expect much of anything from them, and think most of them are lying scum who look out for themselves and are controlled by special interests. I am just trying to call attention re. Pubs. being liars and are bought and paid for the same as Dems. Too many people who vote for Republicans thinking they are better than democrats are delusional, that's my point.
Campaign finance laws have been to the SCOTUS on numerous occasions. It will continue to be before the SCOTUS as new laws are enacted. I am not in favor of restricting free speech but maybe some speech is freer than other. I don't have an answer. Maybe only individual contributions with a limit would work, but is that a violation of the First Amendment? I'll have to research it. But one thing is for sure. Special interests control the politicians. And that is bad.

JYT had some very good points and recognizes a huge problem in our political system. A problem I think, like you said, most everyone agrees with.
What would you suggest the solution be? sirius. Not attacking. Want your thoughts/opinion on the the prob.

JYT is one of my favorite posters, to start.
I am also learning a lot from spooneye this past couple of months.

Make bribing a politician a more serious crime than selling weed, and set the limits on campaign financing to "what the common man can afford".
