Scotch Question

Has anyone tried the Costco/Kirkland scotch? My neat sipping Scotch is Balvenie Doublewood. My scotch and soda scotch is Grants. Ironically Grants owns Balvenie. Thanks. Go Tigers. Can't wait for Labor Day!

Friend of mine has gotten that one but I believe it was an age one. But he said he likes Lafroaig from a Scottish Island.

Try Tomintoul 16yo. It’s about $80 and is by far my favorite. I’ve introduced it to many of my friends and for many it’s become their favorite too.

Hard to beat Balvenie Doublewood, but you might consider Glenmorangie's 18 year old or their Signet. Both are outstanding.

Glenmorange Signet is fantastic but you could buy 4 bottles of Balvenie for one bottle is Signet.

This one is easy to drink: Caol Ila distillery (/kʌl ˈiːlə/; Scottish Gaelic: Taigh-staile Chaol Ìle [t̪ʰəˈs̪t̪alə xɯːlˈiːlə], "Sound of Islay Distillery") is a Scotch whisky distillery near Port Askaig on the isle of Islay, Scotland, owned by Diageo.
Caol Ila
Region: Islay Location Port Askaig Owner Diageo Founded 1846 Status Operational Water source Loch nam Ban No. of stills 3 wash (19,000 L) 3 spirit (12,000 L)[1] Capacity 6,500,000 L Mothballed 1930–1937, 1942–1945 Caol Ila Age(s) 12-year-old[2] cask strength[3] 18-year-old[4] 25-year-old[5] Cask type(s) American oak ABV 43%
History
The whisky Edit
Caol Ila is one of the lighter Islay whiskies, pale in colour, with peaty, floral and peppery notes. In addition to being sold as a single malt, it is used heavily (around 95% of their production) in blends such as Johnnie Walker's Black Label.[6] Since 1999, the distillery has also produced a non-peated "highland spirit".[7]

Don’t know on Kirkland though as a rule of thumb, Kirkland does a good job. Not out much to just buy one and try it. Worst case, you can just add ice.
Would suggest Monkey Shoulder for a lower cost option. It includes Balbenie as part of the blend iirc. It is tasty

Oban is very good...

From Little Bay (which is apparently what Oban means) to the 14...18...etc. Rock solid.
As is Aberlour. I have an Aberlour 12, double casked that has an incredible chocolate finish. Highland Park 12 is also good.
Ardberg...Laphroaig...those aren't my cup of tea...but for those who like them, what I listed isn't theirs either!
Sip on!

The heavily peated stuff must be an acquired taste. Cheaper to lick a burnt tire or a creosote post for the same effect. I have Laphroaig and Lagavulin 16 in my cabinet but I don’t get into them much.
To each his own - you like what you like.
