Keep in mind that Sammy gave us three years only.

Sammy and Spiller starting the season
Feb 9, 2014, 9:36 AM

With a opening kick off TD ( Spiller, Middle Tennessee)
And the screen pass for a 50 + TD ( Sammy, Troy)
After I saw Sammy run that, I knew we had someone special but I'd say Spiller.
The fact he did half of what he did with turf toe his senior year is staggering.

Nuk's 4th and 16 on LSU is right up there with Gaines Adams' field goal/fumble return for a td as one of my favorite Clemson plays of all time. Gotta go with Spiller on the question though. Spiller gave us Sammy along with many other recruits who wanted to be like CJ. He gave us far more thrills than just the ones he created on the field himself.

because he had more touches and like Sammy was always a threat with any touch to go to the endzone. Just a function of number of touches.
I think CJ was faster at top speed but I dont think anyone could accelerate with Sammy

8 returns for TD in his career including 5 his SR year. 21 TDs of 50+ yards and 11 of 80+.

Agree, but the kickoff rules were different at the time

Touchbacks were far more rare, and kickoffs were handled a bit different. Spiller had time to get up to speed and get a good look at the approaching ST players.
I still think Spiller is the better returner even if the rules were equal, but Sammy was at a bit of a disadvantage with kickoffs happening so much more shallow.

Sammy is special, but CJ was a once-a-generation type player. It's really not close.

Spiller - He touched it more
Feb 9, 2014, 2:24 PM

Spiller should have had more touches his first three years but that is another story.
Sammy - Threat to score on any play. Best "Big Play" receiver at Clemson.
Both were fun to watch. When the ball touched their hands, people stood up to watch the play. Both were a stick of dynamite that could explode on any play.

I love Sammy and all, but there's no comparison. What CJ could do to you on special teams alone makes him a higher impact player than Sammy. Funny coincidence, CJ's mom's last name is Watkins.
Anyway, here's a video to remind you why he's the best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pAJh_eJ7yo
