Sammy is gone - and rightfully so...
Nov 4, 2013, 1:29 PM
|
|
He's given us three great years, will have finished with 3k+ yards and contributed to 3 10+ win seasons. He's payed his dues, gone over and above what we expected and now on the verge of receiving his just rewards and what he's worked 20 years toward. He's the #1 WR in the draft - asking him to stay is simply greedy on our parts. Hopefully one day, we'll see #2 retired, along with #28 and #10.

What are his latest draft projections?
Nov 4, 2013, 1:29 PM
|
|
At 1 point I saw him as a 2nd or 3rd highest WR and late 1 or early 2nd round.
The last few games he's really shown himself to be a true #1 receiver.

like CJ, he may surprise us. There's something about that kid that makes me think that he's a different type of kid. Can't put my finger on it but while i think he's gone, if he doesn't go, i won't be totally surprised.

I was thinking the same thing that's why I posted it. I remember when everyone said well its nice knowing you CJ have fun in the NFL.. then BOOM he says he's coming back then everyone goes NUTS.. If he comes back.. and to have Him and Peake healthy.. that's what we are really missing.. Peake was having such a great start..

including mine. I'd probably be gone. There's just something about Sammy that makes me think that he's a unique guy. CJ was too, but for different reasons. Sammy's fam moved to Clemson. You don't know how that kid views wealth. It's different for some kids from poor backgrounds. He might want to stay insulated another year because he's his own man. You don't know what CJ and Nuk have told them. Memo to a LOT of folks: a lot of kids in the NFL MISS college big time. Not all, but some. The ones that do are often times the ones who were loved deeply by their fan bases like CJ. The $$$ are a great thing but i would be surprised if Sammy came back in a sense but in a sense that is a kind of 6th sense, i wouldn't be surprised. There's something different about that kid, man.

CJ was a middle to last first round pick. Pending on the teams drafting sammy could fall in the same mold.. It all depends.. Some of the lower teams need QB's more than they need WR's.. so who knows where he might fall.

I do not remember seeing him quite that high.

|

Remember he spent a large chunk of 2008 in the mire of Bowden's last year fiasco, and was splitting carries with James Davis.
I remember seeing him early in the second round in projections.
In 2009 Dabo got him the ball early and often, and he improved his status greatly.
Sammy, barring injury, is a near lock at a Top 15 selection. There is nothing he can do to improve his stock, and he risks injury and devaluing himself with another year at Clemson. Just my opinion.

If he came back there is nothing that would devalue him.. even injury.. They have 3 years of film on this kid.. He has elite speed hands and his route running is top notch.. It is just one of those what if things for me.. I know he is more than likely gone but i'd love to see him come back.

And add to that the fact that Sammy is almost a prototypical professional player while there were a number of knocks on Spiller (not saying they were accurate) about his durability and size as an every down back.

Having Sammy for one more year would be incredible! As well as Vic B, Martavis, Grady Jarrett, Tony Steward, Stephone Anthony, etc. etc. Corey Crawford, We need as much experience and leadership to hang around as possible!

The one thing I learned quickly when I allowed my

21-year-old grandson to move in with me was to always expect the unexpected.
I understand the arguments favoring Sammy's early departure; however, sometimes young people are motivated by things other than money...even large amounts of money.
Maybe, just maybe, Sammy might reason that even considering his huge popularity at Clemson, his return for his senior year might...just might enervate the Clemson team and family in a way that money can't. Indeed, he may just choose to follow Tajh's lead...further endearing himself not only among the Clemson faithful, but among sporting fans across the nation.
It sounds greedy on my part, admittedly, but then again, I've rued the day early departures into the NFL became part of our collegiate landscape. Therefore, unabashedly, I'd like to see Sammy choose to remain. BOOM....

Whatever he does I'll stand with him. This is too big a decision for anyone to make for another. If he stays and gets hurt it could cost him many millions of dollars.
Were he my son I'd tell him this is his decision. Were he to ask me what I think he should do I'd tell him to go and go with a clean heart.

I understand where everybody is coming from and I would say the same if Tajh was coming back, but he would be starting all over with a new QB and I don't see him doing that, but like most have said, I didn't see CJ coming back either. Either way best of luck to Sammy and Thank You for your time at Clemson...
