BUT if we can renegotiate the TV contract with these new additions, it will be worth it. Let's see the commish earn his keep and get it done.

Weren't Cal, and Stanford, pushing to cancel football season just a couple of seasons ago??
The ACC just invited a bunch of American hating, Globalist, Woke turds. Pure trash.
I didn't think it was possible for the ACC to become a bigger joke, but they've really outdone themselves with this move.

This conference has no vision beyond the end of their nose, and this is why we need to leave this conference as soon as possible. Maybe the "Double Fries" FSU guy is right about the Big 10 wanting FSU and Clemson regardless of the GOR and will still give them a full share because Fox wants us so much. If that's true, we should've been gone yesterday.

Yes, you can blame them. There is no reason to change your mind at this hour. The other schools don’t have a choice because they suck. Although Miami is a head scratcher for sure.

Outside of UNC, NCSU, FSU, and Clemson, the rest of the ACC schools are hopelessly second-rate as far as FB.
Compared to the ACC’s also-ran programs, Cal and Stanford are upgrades. If simply the current quality of Cal and Stanford was the issue, then I would agree with them.
(SMU is another thing; ACC bunch of ACC’s FB bottom feeders, thinking that by inviting SMU in on the condition that they don’t get their ‘fair’ share of the ACC pie for 7 years, represents their thinking that both FSU and Clemson will figure out a way to escape the ACC in about 7 years. To them, they might as well bulk up the conference with more sand spur grass instead of watching the ex-Clemson and ex-FSU conference erode into the next conference to erode into extinction.)
UNC at least had the self respect to recognize that they could become relevant in FB if they only got off their duffs and invested big in FB. UNC (same as NCSU, FSU, and Clemson) has the resources and (at least regional) FB name recognition to do this.
Thus, NCSU’s decision to invite the ‘miserable two’ and the WHUTT??? SMU makes the least sense. I just can’t believe that NCSU is that stupid by taunting FSU and Clemson and further encouraging us to leave. Profoundly stupid of NCSU.

They completely sat on their hands, and have for a decade. 4 PAC 12 schools just went to the Big 12. Had those 4 schools had ACC offers instead, they absolutely would've chosen the ACC. I'm not saying I'd want any of those 4 schools either, but the Big 12 is essentially a G5 conference masquerading as a P5.

The ACC approached Oregon and Washington last year, and were turned down.
Arizona and the others actually wouldn't have joined because they get a full share in the Big 12, vs. a partial share in the ACC.

Oregon and Washington had no desire to join the ACC because they knew that a Big 10 invite would be on the way, as the goal always seemed to be 20 teams for the Big 10.
They are getting full shares, because they bring more to the conference than the 3 we're adding. They also bring full shares in terms of additional TV money per school, where as the 3 we're adding only bring in an additional $24 million per school, rather than what the current payout is per school. This "financial boon" that everyone points to with these additions only lasts for 5-7 years. After that, those schools get full shares and the full pot of money will need to be split 17 ways, which equates to less money per school. That's fine if Clemson is out of this league before that time is up, but if not, this financially hurts Clemson in the long run.

Arizona and Co. get full shares because of the pro rata clause in the Big 12's TV contract.
ESPN is actually paying the ACC a full shares for Stanford, Cal, and SMU (an extra ~$72 million a year). The difference is that the Big 12 is letting the new schools keep the full share, whereas the ACC is only giving the new schools a partial share and giving the rest to the existing schools.
Point being, the existing Big 12 schools aren't making more money after adding the Pac 12 than they would if they stayed with the existing schools.
Same thing with the ACC. If the Pac 12 schools joined the ACC at full shares, Clemson and co. would not get extra money.

The additional $72 million for Stanford, Cal, and SMU are not full shares (that is the total before Stanford and Cal take their 30%, leaving around $55 million). That's $24 million per year, where our current payout per school is $29.5 million. And while Clemson would get additional money for 5-7 years, the question remains, what happens after that time when the schools do take full shares, which results in all school receiving less money, or will they bring account for additional revenue equal to the current per school payout at that time. While there is marginal revenue gained by those schools, this does not appear to be a viable long term solution.

The point is, the same thing would happen adding the other Pac 12 schools. Unless Arizona, Utah, etc. agreed to join with partial shares, the Clemson and the other ACC schools would not get any extra money. Tha does no good for the ACC.
The ONLY reason the ACC is taking Stanford and Cal is because they are willing to take less money. It's not worth it it for the ACC to expand if the current teams don't get extra money. It's also not worth it fir Arizona and co. to join if they don't get a full share.
Also, the $72 million is a partial share, for Stanford and Cal. SMU is the one who drags down the average, which is why they are taking ZERO TV revenue.

Neither FSU nor Clemson are rated as AAU colleges.
Oregon and Washington are AAU schools.
All of the B1G schools are AAU schools. FWIW, so is Notre Dame, and so also is UNC.
I do not believe that the B1G would accept e non-AAU school into their conference.
I believe that it is SEC or nothing worthwhile for Clemson and FSU as far as leaving the ACC is concerned. Quite frankly, the SEC doesn’t need either of us in order to improve the SEC’s marketability. Rather, the SEC, by admitting us to their conference, would make it more difficult for UGA, Auburn, Alabama, FL, TN, TX, TN, and aTm to get all of the high quality FB recruits. How would FSU and Clemson make their lives easier?
It looks like tough sledding.

Beginning of the end of the ACC.....
Once UNC, Duke, FSU or Clemson leaves its game over for the conference. This move is literally giving CPR to a the conference already dying on the vine.

Sep 1, 2023, 8:50 AM

Than throwing Cal & Stanford (2 highly rated academic schools w/ overall successful athletics programs) a bone so they didn't lose prestige.
That said, I've said if the ACC was truly gonna go this route, they should've went "full r-" & add Oregon St & Wash St too. If its TV $ bump they were pushing & thought Cal/Stanford/SMU added enough was worth the risk, them other 2 would've added as well, plus would've had a block w/ them where so many eastern schools wouldn't have to travel out there as much as those 4 were guaranteed to be permanent rivals & would be able to sprinkle in SMU/ND to offset that as well.
In retrospect, if ACC was gonna do this, they should've been proactive & got the Pac when they still had 9 members & then run both as separate entities still (something you see in corporate world).
Once again, ACC is being reactive instead of proactive. I can imagine Clemson & FSU will increase their efforts for trying to find a way out of the league, since they were 2 of the schools that remained a hard 'no' to today's move.

This surely must mean that Notre Dame is joing the conference next. Right?????? They were pushing for this move.
In all seriousness, this is a another terrible decision the ACC came up with. This conference will not survive, even if it lasts until 2036. They have always been reactionary and this move proves it. Clemson needs a way out of this conference.

If ND joined the conference, then I’d be fine adding Cal and Stanford.
ND isn’t ever happening for us as full time ACC program (I.e., including FB). They’ll swallow their pride and join B1G instead.

THE ACC SHOULD HAVE ABSORBED THE BIG EAST
Sep 1, 2023, 9:16 AM
|
|
Not only does it make sense geographically but would have added massive revenues to the conference. The ACC then would have a 26-team super conference. It would have been substantial enough to renegotiate a better media deal with either ESPN, CBS, FOX, or ABC. It also would bring a variety of competition to all collegiate sports and not just football. The BIG East is known for basketball and baseball as well as wrestling and soccer.

This is a good move for the ACC given the circumstances.

It will add three schools that the ACC, and thus Clemson, will profit from.
The frustrating part is that the ACC shouldn't have let it get to this point before doing something.
I am ready to join the Big 10.

Just another of many reasons why we need to leave this conference.

Just how many votes were needed to get this passed without the help of Clemson, FSU, UNC, and whoever else that maybe voting NO?

How can we fight Condy Rice and GW Bush? I think we are right to include the three schools and the ACC will be stronger in the long run because of it.

I just think the whole conference expansion craziness has gone bat manure nuts. And it makes no sense except for the the deep pockets of the schools, the networks, OPEC for flying people cross country.
Because fans are not going to travel 3000 miles to go to games. Just the athletes and network crews.
