Our Gals have started Round #2 at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate in Knoxville, TN . . .

It’s early . . . but we have moved up 2 Spots into 5th Place . . . It should get interesting as the day progresses . . .

Here’s the Link:

(I miss Savannah Grewal being there . . . but I wish her the very best at her Stage 2 LPGA Qualifier . . . which starts tomorrow.)

Savannah Grewal -
2023 LPGA AND EPSON TOUR QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT STAGE II in Venice, Florida @ The Plantation Golf and Country Club

She is able to play this tournament as an Amateur and keep her college eligibility in tact . . . Should she Qualify for the next step, The Q Series, she will have to turn Pro, thus forfeiting her Amateur status (and College Eligibility).

There are 189 Young Women competing in the Tournament!!!

Best Wishes to Our TIGER on achieving her dreams!!!

Bryson Nimmer -
FIRST STAGE- FLORIDA (LAKE WORTH)will be playing @ The Falls Club in Lake Worth, FL . . .

This is the 2nd of 4 Stages to earn PGA or KF Tour Status for the 2024 Seasons. Billy Kennerly was entered into this event last week, but has withdrawn. Sadly, I could not find him in any other Second Stage Qualifying Event.

Here is the Link to for Bryson’s Quest:

(Just as a reminder, William Knottingham had his First Stage Qualifier last week. He missed Qualifying by 1 stroke.)

We barely beat GT’s B team. I think we beat them anyway.

Worst golf team in 40 years.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I assume he will IF he wants to remain.

Our Guys shot: Even Par, +11 and -10 as a Team this weekend . . . The +11 killed all chances at an acceptable finish . . . The -10 finishing round (when everything was lost and nothing at stake, but pride) showed me the “promise” Our Squad has within . . . there is potential there.

Can Coach Byrd pull it out of them? Is he playing the correct 5 Guys? Should he have played Will Baker this weekend . . . Or brought him to play as an Individual?

Look, I’m just a fanatic that has picked up the sticks late in life (about 15 yrs ago and I’m working on my 68th year now) and loved all things Clemson since I could breath on my own . . . I know NOTHING about Coaching/Teaching Golf . . . but I’ve played enough and am smart enough to know if you can shoot -10 once . . . You can do it again . . . and if you work hard enough, you can do it more often.

The Question is, “Can Coach Byrd get Our Guys to play up to their potential?”

That's what I'm thinking. If they were the absolute s***s

Don't see the carding 1 of the bests rounds on day 3 there. But they've finished almost dead last in 2 tourneys & bottom half in another (where they playing great last round before weather nullified the results). Add in that they barely made regional play last year, the angst about direction of program is understandable.

They gotta find a way to put it all together for 3 rounds.

Caddie, I'm replying under skeet's post. He did a great job summarizing the points. I would add, of course Byrd is back. He was with CLP for 15 years so he knows how to win. We've sort of touched on this before.

Recruits knew at some point CLP was handing the bag over. But I think the same thing would have happened whether he was here or not. He was a master motivator... but in my uneducated opinion, the covid year took its toll. We had 3 guys come back. They helped us with a good year but it knocked out coach Byrd from recruiting for that year... and it was a last minute decision on them coming back. Coach scrambling went out and brought in a couple transfers. He's still going to deal with that this year too. I'm hopeful the guys here gave coach a heads up on their plans.

It's also safe to say that a couple guys highly decorated out of high school just haven't developed. I've been outspoken in saying I really think coach should be giving the young guys more pt. I'm sure the kids that transferred were under the impression they would play. Did coach give his word they would? Who knows. But it's the proverbial rock and hard place... that's why I couldn't coach.

Painful but let's see who he recruits and how they develop. We know Will Baker has game at the highest level.

Caddie

I told you in yesterday’s post that Our Gals are slow starters . . . and this current tournament is no exception. I also told you that I expected a good showing still . . . and that they were only 5 shots out of 2nd Place . . .

We are now only 2 shots out of 2nd Place and only 10 shots off the Lead (which I thought was unmatchable) . . . So far today, we have cut 7 shots off the Leaders advantage over us without the help of our two Day One Horses!!! When Annabelle settles her ship and Chloe follows suit . . . We will be just fine!

I’ve ALL the confidence one can muster in these TIGERS!!!

Sadly the Pancake flopped. About like mine do. Both ours from yesterday are having bad days. Still a few holes left, but looking at the top of the field, those are tough holes. We missed on the easy holes 15-18. Will be interesting to see where we end once all rounds are completed. I want this team to be a great top 10 team but I have to remind myself that none have redshirt and our only senior Pancake is playing today.

As great as we want her to be, if you take off the orange glasses, she's our top rated golfer in university ranking at only 125. So we're accomplishing good things without having a top 100 golfer. That's one reason Hester won coty. She's getting there, but we're still in an early stage of our program.

Just to put a little perspective on this, Coach Penley in his last year had 3 players in the top 100. Including one top 10 and they were juniors and seniors. Just saying.

I'm so happy for both Melena and Sydney. Both have the game. Sydney is used to winning championships. Hopefully we get Annabelle for her covid year but who knows. May depend on how the spring goes. Kats not doing bad either.

Not going to be a good day for our gals. We've had 2 bogeys and a double on the par 3 6th. It's not that difficult of a hole but we've seemed to struggle each day with it.

Oh well. We get one more chance to end fall on a high note. Both men's and women's. I also noticed that we fell out of the top 10 in rankings apparently.
