Penn State

Being a Penn State fan (second to Clemson) of course, I hate this. I have always been a huge JoePa fan and it really sucks to realize what was going on up there and him being a bigger part in it. I hate it for the University and all the fans. Knowing they probably deserve the death penalty, I can't imagine college football without PSU. They really are a great fanbase and know that games in Beaver Stadium are awesome. Its a shame that the current players and fans are dealing with this. I mean, can you imagine if this happened to Clemson? My hope is that they completely clean house of everybody and start from scratch but continue playing football. Nike is already taking Paterno's name off of his building and i think his statue needs to come down. What happened is horrible and shameful and I hope that the football program can get past this and be respectable again...just my thoughts.

I too liked JP and use to love for him to beat Bear Bryant;

However, I know when I heard of the 1st incident with the parent of a child complaining to JP and him not taking action on the shower incident that he was as deep as anyone it this. The longer they leave the statue up and don't take huge actions, the longer the healing process will be.

destroyed. I don't give a crap if they bulldoze the "Happy" Valley into the ground.

This isn't about healing for the University and Football, this is about doing everything they can to try and pay back an infinite debt.

I was trying to give a penn state fan perspective..not the victims. Nice to know you don't give a "crap" about all their fans and what they're going through.

It really is just an awful situation

I agree that they need to take down the statue, etc. at Penn St. Unfortunately, their legacy right now is built on a man who did a lot of good and bad it turns out. They just need a fresh start.

I really sympathize with alumni too. I worked with a lot of PSU grads, and they were all great people. This is something out of their control that completely steals the pride they used to have in their PSU diploma.

A lot of us give our administration crap for not going all in to support our athletics, but this is an example of what can happen when winning is given too much priority. I'd be devastated if this were Clemson. I'm devastated it happened anywhere.

most powerful man at the U. He would be going to jail for rest of his life if he was still living - I did not like him when he was alive for his arrogance and now I really know why I got bad vibes from him! Live on Penn State, but completely "clear your slate" as you wrote. good luck!

Agree, I never liked him, that degree of kool aid drinking

blind loyalty and hero worship is exactly what led to this whole scandal. I always thought he was arrogant and I'm always suspicious when that degree of hero worship is present.

Great article by Rick Reilly about this and there were people at PSU that knew the truth about the real character of Paterno, but just like anyone on here that dare question Dabo, despite his utter lack of qualifications and experience, you get persecuted and drowned out by the irrational, blindly loyal, kool aid drinking crowd.

By the way, any very successful HC in bb or fb will be more

popular than the president, which presidents wanting winners need to accept and check their ego at the door, but Paterno was not only the most powerful person at PSU, many say he was the most powerful person in the state. Osborn was like that in Nebraska. You are not going to be governor or senator in those states without the support of Paterno or Osborn. These men were clearly given and allowed to attain far too much power. Although had this happened at Nebraska I have no doubt that Tom Osborn would have ran down to the showers and beat the snot out of Sandusky.

Schools like Clemson, PSU, etc isolated in small rural areas or the way Happy Valley is, are clearly more prone to cover ups and group think mentality away from the prying eye of more metropolitan areas. Although bad things can happen anywhere, esp if others sit by and enable it.

I got bad vibes from him when I was 12. Always thought he was an Arrogant A$$hole. As it turns out he was much worse.

One would think just from the standpoint of publicity....

..Penn State would want to remove any and all traces of Joe Paterno from the campus, the statue included. PSU is probably going to end up being the "Kent State" of college football, only for different reasons.
