Thanksgiving Day?

Nov 28, 2013, 12:30 PM

Folks, everyday is thanksgiving day to me. I've been blessed with the presence of God, the blessing of knowing His word, 7 children and reasonable health for someone who's mistreated his body for 5 decades.

Every day is thanksgiving to me. I celebrate God's presence in this world today and in my heart today, tomorrow and for eternity.

I think a man should give thanks everyday for every blessing he can think of, less he get behind and have to get worked up just to catch up. That's probably not real popular these days but that's how it ought to be done.

spot on, man

though i'm not a religious man, i'm spiritual and I know the Big Man Upstairs let me wake up today, as well as every other day the last 45 years, and that's an opportunity to enjoy life and find a way TO do something, instead of NOT do something. 2 great kids, a lifetime of opportunities in life, and the best advice my father told me when i was 16..."the fast forward button will get you in trouble....the rewind button doesn't work....wake up every day and simply press play and be glad that one works....the pause button is for when you need it but just press play every day and realize that you were given the gift and opportunity of life....." I live by that and I refuse to let negativity get in the way of how we're supposed to seize the day every day. Happy Thanksgiving brother....everyday is Thanksgiving if you realize how lucky we really are.

The only thing I'm not satisfied with is me.

I could be a better man.

we all could be better but at least you care....

Nov 28, 2013, 12:55 PM

at least you think about it instead of not even caring about that as long as you "get yours" and all of the other self absorbed "gotta get mine" mindsets that are out there. The fact that you even self assess and THINK like that shows that you care about life and what you bring to the table for others. I'm lucky to be alive after 5 combat tours in the infantry and when i get to dragging or moody i think about the fellas who were killed or we brought home missing limbs, brain damaged, etc. and i realize that being self absorbed ain't a real good thing to be in life when you realize how lucky we all are to live life. Life is what you make of it and it's really about the effect you have on others and what you pass on to those who look up to you. You have to love yourself, though, and if you're operating on 100% yourself, you'll have 100% to give others. That's where happiness comes from.

We're all a work in progress, but it sounds like you have your feet well planted and have realized how much you're blessed. Some of the things we think are so important and worry and fret over in the final analysis won't matter, and some of the things we pay little attention to will be the most important. I think I'm finding in my senior years to be content, not complacent, with where I am in life and to focus on the really important things. Right now, the game Saturday is huge, and I want to win it very badly. But as excited as I am about the game, it's just that...only a game. What really matters is the kind of person I'm becoming and, like you, I'm still a work in progress. Blessings to you and yours this Thanksgiving!!

If we're not making someone else's life better, we're wasting our time.
