than 23, 17, and 16 against UofL, BC, and Syracuse? These are teams we clearly out-talent, and it's not even close. For 1.4 mil, should I expect more than that, even without DW?
and before you accuse me if trashing Chad, you better check my post history about how big of a supporter of his I've been.
We have zero identity on offense and look lost.

It's real hard to see if it is just bad play calling or the injuries taking a toll on the team. A good offensive coach looks like a genius with healthy talent, but with patchwork and banged up players, it's kind of hard to point at one or the other.

Our issues on offense this year are not on a Chad...they are on bad luck.

Supplementary question... do they make 1.4 million a year?
The question isn't does Chad suck... the question is is he earning 1.4 million a year this year?
No.

Not trying to be an apologist here, but isn't it ironic that everyone has a problem with Chad when Cole is playing and no one says a word when DW is in?
I will say, it brings up the question, if it's still Jimmy's and Joes, why pay anyone more than you have to?
Here my guess at my own question... The system brings in the recruits. While I haven't heard the Chad is a great closer with recruits, his system is attractive to players that make the difference. So if it's me, I pay him.

Chad was hired to improve our running game...
Oct 25, 2014, 11:56 PM
|
|
2010 - CU rushing off ranked 79th at 139 ypg (pre-Chad)
2011 - CU rushing off ranked 59th at 158 ypg. (CM)
2012 - CU rushing off. ranked 36th at 191 ypg. (CM)
2013 - CU rushing off. ranked 52nd at 174 ypg. (CM)
2014 - CU rushing off. ranked 96th at 137 ypg. (CM)
now... in 2010, Chad's only year at Tulsa, they were 15th in the nation rushing the ball at 217 ypg. Once he left for CU, Tulsa was 28th in 2011 and 9th in 2012.
looking at those numbers, you could argue that Tulsa maintained their running game b/c of what Malzhan and other assistants built, then maintained after Chad left.
Especially when you look at CU's numbers since his arrival. Maybe he brought no running game with him, and he's trying to find it on the fly now...
Don't forget his performance in games where the talent is similar... such as FSU and SCU over the past 3.5 years. Should I post that record.
Our talent is so much better than 75% of our schedule, it's not even close.

well the usuck games have been more about our D not getting them off the field (what was the ToP in those?) yes fsu punked us last year but we were the better team this year but couldn't pull thru..Yes it would be great to line up and run the ball all over the field but that's kind of hard with so many injuries..Things will only get better and even when Chad is gone we will just reload in a similaiar fashion...1.4M should be able to attaract the top of the top...sheeshhhhhh we are winning because of D and I would rather have that anyday..yes i would prefer we slow it down on O and play to our strengths instead of fast 3 and outs...we need to limit opposing possessions as much as possible until DW4 is back...

We've played 14 ranked teams under Chad

[ in reply to how's that total offense done in games where talent is ] |

in those games we've avg 388 yds and 26 ppg, only scoring under 2 TDs in 1 of them. If you give him 1 mulligan for a bad performance our avg is 406 ypg and 27 ppg.
Of those 14 games 5 were vs top 5 teams, 1 vs a top 10 team and 6 more vs a top 15 team. Verses top 5 teams we avg. 417 ypg and 29 pts a game. Maybe its me but averaging that vs top 5 teams is the kind of offense I'd like to have.
But then again those are just factual stats. What do I know?

against Georgia started at the same position. I honestly cannot remember that ever happening at Clemson. It's a struggle without Watson. We'd better get him back for Tech as they will score a few points. But right now, the OL is being held together by bailing wire. Stoudt has clearly shown he's not a starter. At least the RB's ran hard tonight, if Davidson could just hold on to the ball. But without Watson, we have zero big play capability. And Morris' offense is a big play offense. He doesn't get a pass, but he gets some understanding from me. But you have to admit, a 16-6 game where the last 8 minutes we run 15 consecutive running plays and kill the clock. That was a flashback!

Always premises the post that he wants the input of TNET, abprutly places parameters on what we can and can't say in response, and then responds with heavy sarcasm and circular arguments to anyone with a different tune.
Dude, it would save us all a lot of time if you would simply make a declarative statement about how you feel rather than posting 15 times in your own threads to defend the topic you "posed" to the board.
It's well documented you are far too cynical to admit when anyone other than yourself tries to construct an argument.
You have the debating presence of a pre-pubescent teenager.

The problem isn't playcalling. It obviously works with DW4. I am not sure what you wish them to do with Cole at QB. Cole is what he is, a below average FBS QB. There simply isn't anything else you can do with a 1-read, immobile QB.
I think the bigger concern is that Dabo/Chad gave Cole the starting nod over DW4 to begin the season. There is simply no way that they could not see that DW4 is head and shoulders above Cole.
It is not unreasonable to think that is why Chad Kelly lost it and ended up getting dismissed from the program. Kelly is head and shoulders above Stoudt and Kelly knew it. I am sure Kelly's immaturity was on full display when Stoudt continued to be the starter (and more than likely DW4 was #2).
I don't really care that Kelly left, but if he didn't, Stoudt would have been benched again during the Louisville game. The offense would look half way reasonable with Kelly, and people certainly would not be complaining as much about Morris' playcalling.
It was just a few years ago that BV was in the same position with players who couldn't execute his defense. Now everyone loves him, but he has the best players he has ever had. Of course his defense is going to look better.

Cole was never named the starter before Chad got dismissed, at least to my knowledge. Kelly got dismissed because of poor decisions. If he would of never got into trouble he would still be on the team and starting right now. He threw a hissy fit bc he didn't agree with the play calling and the coaches pulled him out. Then he still was arguing with the coaches after the game and as a result, was escorted out of the west zone. About a week later, he got into an accident and left before cops arrived. That's why Chad got dismissed. Cole Stoudt would do very well in a bama style offense, not with Morris's offense. Chad Morris never recruited Stoudt, he already committed before Morris arrived. Chad is doing what he can with Stoudt and I'm sure he has to limit his play calling due to the depth at QB

Have to somewhat agree. Let's go back and count the number of screen passes we have seen since the Orange bowl. Looks like the made scientists offense. His offense has not done much without all world Sammy. Bottom line you cannot have a guy like Stoudt in a dual threat system.

elite talent on the O side of the ball. They're not scoring because they are relatively average to bad at best for the competition.
OL - dumpster fire RB - average; yes, Gallman is average - has an average first step, runs hard but too high, not terribly evasive (vs, McDowell or Ellington); Choice has good vision and finishes but is average quickness, and this Offense needs quickness and timing to the hole; DJ is average; and dang if Davidson doesn't look the best of them until he puts the ball on the ground TE - Mc Cullough and Seckinger look good in passing game generally, but not blocking; Cooper is just the other way around - no complete player WR - given the number of drops by Williams and Hopper, I'd say this position is the most talented but also is inconsistent (just not as badly so as the OL) QB - slow first two steps, which makes him incredibly vulnerable to the inside pass rich; long release, has average arm with time to throw, but can not throw the ball deep - may be the worst QB since Proctor at throwing the ball deep; I'm actually not sure if we can complete a long one; to boot, the demotion has made him gun shy in decision making which he wasn't before
Worse, Chad will not call the throws that Cole can make - we run no slants, no deep posts (completed the only one we threw tonight), no under curls, no tight end drags across the middle. Chad is stuck on the outside of the field, and Cole needs to be throwing across the middle. We throw absolutely no underneath routes. Yes, we go to the flat behind the LOS and we run the bubble to death. But Chad just will not run what Cole can throw.
Al in all, this is just a bad offense, with personnel that doesn't match the scheme and limited talent. Worse, they don't seem to focus very well either, though one would have to congratulate them on not having penalties. And before tonight they were reasonably good with hang in onto the ball for the year.
Given what we've had the past few years, and the total talent we lost, we were due for a drop-off. DW makes the team better for sure, but we're going to struggle scoring against USuCk again even still. That game is going to be closer than it should be unless they lay the ball on the ground some for us this year. I guess one can always hope.

You do realize that the limitations you accurately described above is why Chad doesn't want Cole throwing over the middle, right? He went over the middle once tonight. It was a very bad INT.

The first was a bad INT where Cole was hit throwing the ball.
The second was a 25 yard completion to M Williams on a deep post with a perfect throw by Cole.
Get your facts straight if you're going to be yapping like a dog in heat on the board.
I am simply suggesting that Chad needs to throw some "under" routes in the middle of the field as a way of keeping the middle rush at bay. Everyone knows that when you get a corner blitz you try to dump the ball to where the corner came from. I am simply suggesting that you do the same in the middle of the field.
Name one throw you've seen jus make in the last 3 weeks that was underneath the drop of the LB's or overtop of a middle blitz.
Everyone got crazy because Cole threw "almost" picks against Louisville - and a couple of those were to LB's dropping deep middle. There's a reason the LB's were getting deep enough to cut off the deep throw to Williams and Hopper in that game - there was nothing in terms of underneath routes to stop then from simply bailing into the post and streak routes.
You people are simply idiots if you think you know more than Swinney or Morris. Absolute morons.

epifunny: I agree with most items in your post. We throw to the sidelines on 90% of our passes which means the D has to defend "half" of the field. I have asked why no pass routes to the TE over the middle, why no quick passes to WR slanting over the middle, etc.etc. I simply cannot understand it? Can you?

Yes, we all should expect more. If you look at any big win in his time here it was due to the defense showing up. Look back to the LSU win even Ohio State. People have selective memory but both of those games were near throw aways. He lays an egg against USC every season, and is impatient in play calling. If 1 bomb is hit the. Ex

It has been a steady decline. As some has said he owes Boyd his paycheck. No ability to adjust.

with Charlie Weiss. Spending money doesn't guarantee you anything. I think Morris earned his raise after year 1. Talent makes great coaches

I for one will sit and wait before criticizing him bc we have lost so much with injuries. Some play calling are head scratchers but a lot of people wanted him to go under center more and that has not helped when we are under center. I really don't think it's all Chad but majority is ourselves. Dropped passes against GA, Louville, BC. Bad handling of a pitch that would have been a TD. Selfish players like Battle, injuries, and Stoudt making bone headed decisions. So I will sit back and hopefully we keep winning and when everyone is back and not injured if we still suck at moving the ball then I might say what i say about 1.3

money does not buy offense - READ THIS and STOP COMPLAINING

coach's coach - players play
chemistry, injuries, etc all play into it.
some times the players dont do the right thing - some times the stars dont equate into performance - you coach them - but you cannot do it for them.
cole is not Chad's type of QB - not dual threat. Chad's offense is built around this threat. he can coach Cole to do those things - but cannot change the makeup. Obviously losing the dual threat backup hurt.
then the o-line. injuries - not just this year - ones that ended the career of players - then - unplanned transfers - have led to weakness.
skill positions graduated - peak is still out - using young but talented receivers. but when you add a QB without mobility to an o-line that has problem protecting him and running backs who have yet to fully grasp blocking - then quite frankly - you get what we have.
Some of you just want to bash and complain. Spoiled with Tahj and offense - but ready to string up the defense. now it has reversed. few teams have both going at the same time.
In my opinion chad is doing a good job and when DW comes back and next year we have two more dual threat backups - then we will have depth in case of injury. we will have a group of off linemen and current redshirts moving up.
enjoy the wins - there are plenty of teams out there that lost yesterday (pretty much 50% - LOL) that would love to be in our shoes today.
win - move on. or maybe you would be happier to score 45 and lose?
i will take a win anyday. JMO anyway.
I support ALL of our Tigers. Coaches, players, and even the ones that mess up. Maybe you guys should too!
I guess you think Saban after the Arkansas game should he fired for only scoring 14 points? and he makes 5-10 times what Chad makes. Ease up sparky.
