Since 2000 - Current ACC Success

Going back to 2000 """"CURRENT"""" ACC schools that have played for or won a National Championship:
Virginia Tech - 2000(played for) Miami - 2001 - NC Miami - 2002 - (played for and was robbed on a mysterious DPI call) FSU - 2013 - crab legs Clemson - 2015 (played for) Clemson - 2016 - NC Clemson - 2018 - NC Clemson - 2019 - (played for)
During that same time period only 1 Big 10 school played for or won it! Ohio State. Pac 12 during the same stretch had: Southern Cal win it in 03 & 04 and play for it in 05. Oregon played for it in 2014. Two schools! The Big 12 during the same stretch had: Texas in 05 win it and Oklahoma in 2000 win it.
The SEC is primarily why people look so side-ways at the ACC. Close proximity and often recruit same high schools. 12 National titles came from SEC schools.
However, 03 - LSU was a Nick Saban squad. He goes to the Dolphins for a couple seasons. Urban Meyer leaves Utah for Florida. This is where that whole drama about being the best conference started. In 2006 Florida won it with that Urban Meyer spread option and fast defense. SEC schools would win the next 6 before FSU knocked down the door defeating Auburn to do so. Of those championships the "ENTIRITY OF THE SEC" gets credit for: Nick Saban had a hand in 7. Urban Meyer had a hand in 2.
In my opinion; had Urban Meyer been given the opportunity he would have taken Alex Smith and won a NC at Utah. He left because yes, the better football players come from this part of the country.
How come Big 10 schools get to be called "football schools" when they aren't challenging as a whole for titles. One school is that is clear an apparent. But, all the conference strength talk is what I am referring to. Seems dim witted to just dismiss how nobody else has come close to competing for a title yet multiple of the so called weaker teams in the ACC have done so in "modern times"(last 20 years). The now unrecognizable Big 12 is in the heart of "football country" yet you only had two challenges for it? Really? But, they get a pass, why? Pac 12 - I mean do I really? Southern Cal for a long time and even now gets it's choice of the cream of the crop in California. Yet, they are no where to be found. The Pac 12 hasn't exactly been doing anything the last twenty years to be called a football conference either. Yet, they do not get beat up like the ACC does. Give the SEC credit because you do have teams win it who are "not Saban or Meyer based"! Auburn - Cam Newton and Malzahn. LSU - Joe Brady and Joe Burrow. 07 LSU - last remnants of Sabans players/system.
The fact are much different than what get spewed on ESPN and the SEC Network. The SEC as a whole is the best conference - but let's call out everybody else for no parody! Let's call out the rest of the SEC who were not Saban or Meyer based championships who haven't come close! No ACC schools don't have the pageantry or nationwide fan base. But, going back the last twenty years there has certainly only been one other conference that could claim more teams challenging for National Titles. SEC has 4(bama, lsu, uf, abum) different schools play for or win at least once. The ACC has 4(VT, FSU, Miami, Clemson) different schools to have played for or won it at least once!
So, unless you going back to when Army was a powerhouse and Minnesota was winning National Titles, the ACC schools the way it stands today i.m.o are getting a bum wrap from the talking heads! The data anybody can look up says so. Especially as it relates to the level of unflattering remarks to a group of schools that has done more than other groups of schools on the football field over the last twenty years. Those schools are getting an unfair pass at being mediocre and not called out - The ACC schools over the last twenty has done a lot more as a whole yet gets dogged. $$$$$$$$$$ follow the money - I know right! https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/college-football-national-championship-historyCollege football championship history Here is a comprehensive list of every college football champion from 1869 to the present day. Note that some years have more than one champion listed.

It will take a lot of doing; and some of us won't see it! But, one day the culture in many of what is now the ACC schools will get better! As people move from the rust belt; eventually enough will move who have kids and ties to a Wake, NCST, GT, etc. As they grow and interest grows - and more importantly - more eyeballs are interested in viewing "the conference will take off"! Based on what everybody says you should go by: "no reason for all the put downs for the ACC specifically"! By the numbers anyway = not if you aren't going to criticize those other conferences more(not the same as but more because they have done even less top to bottom than the ACC has).

So you saying the ACC did a lot more with a lot less in the last 20 years. I agreed but I only see 2 real football schools in the ACC... Clemson and Florida State with Virginia Tech coming in a distant 3rd. It will take a whole lot more ACC schools to become completely committed to their football programs if the ACC want to stop being a joke as a football conference. Miracles can happen I suppose.

Is the ACC a joke because of being a joke? Or because the talking heads have picked and chosen who to prop up?
My question to you is: "is the Big 12, Big 10 and Pack 12 also jokes"? What qualifies?
Looking at the last 20 years as I showed - no way is the ACC anymore a joke than any other conference not called the SEC. Though it's the same 4 schools in the SEC giving the SEC it's rep - I did forget to add Georgia who played for it in 2017.

I don’t think it speaks much for the ACC that you had to go back nearly 20 years to include Miami and over 20 to include VT and neither team was even in the ACC at the time.
Also, I think the PAC 12 is already looked at as underneath the ACC as evident by their recent lack of consideration in the CFP rankings. I think the Big 12 after Oklahoma has been looked at in a very similar way.
The current reputation of the ACC isn’t really from not having a NC challenger other than Clemson. It’s because the ACC has struggled to consistently have even another 2-3 teams ranked in the top 25 other than Clemson.
That can partially be blamed on perception but the ACC hasn’t done itself a lot of favors on the field against other top teams either outside of Clemson.

So in other words, it's about having teams ranked high? Is that what you are thinking it is?
Because if that is the case; it goes right back to the point I am making about the perception not being warranted. No Big 10, Pac 12 or Big 12 schools are exactly lighting it up consistently either besides the very tops in those conferences.
So - perception of the ACC to me keeps them "unranked and looked down on"! OOC the head to head matchups get ignored in some years. As recent as 2016-2017 head to head the ACC won more against the SEC. Louisville, FSU, Clemson winning it's head to head. I think that may have been the year GT stunned Georgia as well. But, no credit given. Michigan has done zero with Ohio State; yet no one talks about how the 2nd best program in the Big 10 looks like a whipped dog every year in the supposed: "game"! These things go in cycles and regardless of if I went back 20 years or not - I went back twenty years for each of these conferences! And the fact of the matter is different than the current perception the ACC has. Fact is over the past 20 years 4 different representatives - some multiple times have played for or won National Titles! National Titles is how the SEC built it's reputation - not just having a bunch of high ranked teams(which came later in order to ensure a loss didn't hurt as much). I seem to have not heard a whole lot out of the SEC prior to the BCS. It was Big 10, Pac 12 or Miami or Notre Dame.
I will end by saying - folks can keep believing what they are shoveled if they want. The fact that the supposed horrible ACC has faired just as well as the very best conference in CFB over the past 20 years will not be ignored by me. I am not one who will put down the ACC without not looking at the other conferences as well! Won't do it - because they have done zero to earn "not being criticized just as much"!
