Seriously...these blowouts are unusual for Brownell....

And we’ve had four of them in January. Occasionally we’ve had it handed to us over the years....but losing by these margins and being completely out of a game so early is bizarre....and it’s now happened four times this month. So my serious question is ‘what is wrong with this team?’. Some of Brownell’s teams that were less talented would at least give the other team heck for 40 minutes in a loss. But this team seems to have lost their edge. Is some sort of team chemistry issue creeping in? Is playing too many guys messing with the rotation rhythm?
Although this team started out great this season, I assumed we would hit some bumps in the road during the ACC grind, but come out with a respectable record and get an invite to the NCAA tourney. That’s still possible due to our quality wins.....but getting destroyed in these games is not a good look. I guess we’ll play better at home these next two.....but today is pretty sobering for even the optimists among us.

But there weren’t even fans at the game today.

Hard to blame it on the road environment

Road games are still a challenge.....

The travel, the ‘home cooking’ from the refs, the other team shooting comfortably, etc...is still a factor, even without the fans. This team has only won 1 true road game (at Miami)....and we barely got that one. We have lost all others or they have been postponed/canceled. I suppose we’ll win a few more home games this year. But after today....any road win would be a surprise, regardless of who it is.

Find a good 8 player rotation and stick to it.

I tend to agree....but I’m not sure which ‘8’ at this point....

I think that Dawes, Trapp and Simms are the only guys that should definitely start. At this point, it’s probably time to see more Hemenway and less Newman. And more PJ Hall than Bahre. Tyson probably still needs to be out there some. Prosper is probably the odd man out at this point. The guards are a mess....Hunter actually does OK when he sticks to the midrange game, but he is not a 3 point shooter. Honor is going to have to sit until he can contribute something.
The depth/play a lot of guys thing only works if you are in the game and can wear out other teams. Not really happening right now.

couldn't be doing a better job of getting Brown-L fired right now if they WERE losing on purpose.

BB is just a weak coach. He’s the type of coach who would need most things to break right to have any shot at a decent season. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some interpersonal tensions created on the team based on the circumstances of the COViD pause, but as others have pointed out COViD is something all teams are dealing with. BB has never struck me as a coach that could handle the chips being stacked against him, so on that light I think the recent results have been very on brand.
