I watch every game, drive up to attend multiple and support win or loss. Just feels like nothing has changed. PJ is a great player, and I'm not going to bore you with the weaknesses I see, but it's gonna be a long year. Will continue to be until we move on from Brownell and adapt to a highly offensive team. Least excited I've been in a while, hopefully I'm proven wrong.

Don’t fret! We’re going to be lights out. Girard and PJ highest returning ACC scorers, Jack Clark takes next step, depth with RJ and Ian, Wiggins is one of the most versatile big men to come through clemson in a long time, the hunter brothers are some of the best guards in the ACC, and although Hemenway should not really play (barring injury to others) he should be another veteran presence in locker room. We good

Not that it matters, because your Coach can and will eff it up first chance he gets.
Let ‘s see: some on here blaming Dabo because the football season is effectively done in September with 2 CFP-killing losses. Might I remind then that the basketball team, having capitulated to Quad 4 remnants Loyola Chicago and Lower Carolina both already by Dec. 15th, didn’t even make it to the ACC schedule before their most recent season was kaput!

Considering where we finished in the ACC and the fact that a team we finished ahead of and beat 3 times by an average of more than 20 points made it, I think it is hard to say that we were done before selection Sunday.

Seems weird to me that a “Clemson fan” would refer to CBB as “your coach”…

We returned a solid core of players from a tournament team and added four solid transfers. Hopefully we will be a 20 win team

Please don’t say a tournament team. It was an NIT bid that didn’t end well. Sweet Sixteen or Brownell packing is my seasonal outlook.

That's a lame take. Dont you see the correlation between the talent on the roster, and in court performance?
I think we will see improvement from 4 starting positions, and our bench should be significantly better.
PG: chase hunter should inprove in his second full season at PG SG: girard is an upgrade over galloway SF: we downgrade at this position. Doubt wiggins or clark can make first team all acc PF: I expect a large step up from schef C: hall should prove considering thisnis the first offseason he's been a participant in since his freshman year.
Bench: hemenway, bas leyte, and the host of sophomores should round out a very good bench for us.

I don't mean this positively or negatively. It's just a question for you since I know you follow the basketball program closely. Last year we depended a lot on 3 point shooting which made us susceptible to losing to poor teams when we shot poorly. There was a time when that wouldn't have mattered, but with current analytics and all the quad # BS those losses are quite impactful. Will this team be less dependent on outside shooting so that bad losses are less likely?

There had never been point where losing really bad games doesn’t hurt your chances of making the NCAA tournament. There is nothing nonsense about quantifying which teams actually are bad. Brownell loses more of these type games than any of his peers in the ACC. That is a fact.

In the past the committee would have looked at the health of the team, and when during the year the losses happened. How a team played when healthy and how they were playing later in the year would carry more weight. With current analytics, neither of those things matter. Louisville would have carried a little weight in the past but nothing like it did last year. Loyola of Chicago and South Carolina would have been almost completely ignored.

Too bad we also lost to Louisville (the worst ranked team on our schedule, the worst P5 team, and one of the worst 20 teams in the country last year) to insure they couldn’t overlook those losses. We probably make it in without that loss regardless of the other two. I’ve posted the numbers below. Clemson, under Brownell, loses these types of games far more often than his peers. He loses dramatically more relative to where he finishes in the conference. And the only schools that have worse total q3+q4 losses are the very bottom of the conference during his tenure.

14 straight seasons of improvement with only 3 tourneys has to be some kind of a record. Btw - in 13 seasons his win percentage has never improved in consecutive seasons. Never. I guess if he finally does it we should give him a lifetime contract.

Quad III and IV losses… a Brownell staple.
The guy hasn’t done much of anything and his coaching and development are to blame. Two top 40 finishes in 13 years is terrible!
Do you really expect Brad to magically become a better coach in year 14?

IMO, Purnell's formula was the best for Clemson
Oct 18, 2023, 9:45 AM

Get the best athletes possible and play frantic full court press and if one or more develop some actual skills, you can compete at a high level. Those teams were about as good as UNC and Duke but didnt recruit McDonalds All Americans or 5* players like they did.
It seems to me we;ve had a budget version of Bennett at UVa.

Weakness in PJ? What are you talking about? He is healthy for the first time in his career and is ready to go. Experienced guards. This team will shoot the 3 better than any team in Clemson history. No need to be negative from the get go. It is going to be a great season. The Lunatic Fringe is going to be disappointed because this team will make the tournament and CBB will get an extension.

He has never had an improved winning percentage in consecutive seasons. Never.
Clemson under Brad
Average ACC Finish - 7th Average RPI - 84 Average RPI rank - 10 Average Q3+4 Losses - 3.1 Average Q3+4 Losses Rank - 11
How this measures up against League:
Average RPI for teams finishing 7th - 61 Brownell % over RPI by league finish - 38% Average Q3+4 Losses by League - 2.6 Brownell % over average Q3+4 losses - 19% Avg Q3+Q4 by ACC avg Quad 2 teams - 2.3 Brownell % over Q3+4 losses by avg quad 2 teams - 35% Place Deviation for Q3+4 losses versus ACC rank - -4 (worst in the league) Place Deviation for RPI versus ACC rank- -3 (tied worst in league) Average Q3+4 losses by ACC 7th place team (excluding Clemson) - 1 Brownell % over Q3+Q4 losses by ACC Rank - 210%
In case these numbers are hard for you to interpret they say he sucks and we’re being ripped off.

Into his 14th year and usage of the transfer portal as a key tool, he has Clemson primed for a ACC championship run.
PJ did disappoint last year, which brought him back for another year which he needed. This guy needs to dominate his opponent, he has too many skills to not use them to help Clemson win ballgames.
Tigers win 22/23 games this year, about 12 of those in ACC play which puts the Tigers into the NCAA tournament and hopefully win a couple games while there.
Get with it, 2023/2024 will be the year of the fighting Brownells

after listening to Walt's interview on the wccp podcast, Coach Brownell is still concerned about rebounding and defense. Enough said...
