Kids are usually

more mature than we give them credit for. If he got the deal, he deserves it in someone's eyes.
If his teammates turn on him, it'll be b/c he's an @$$-hole, not b/c he's getting a fat check.
Related point, the average contract right now for college football players is $928. Many players are getting something, so at least these kids are getting the chance to make a little money.
Shoot, I would have loved to been able to make a $1000 a year for using my name while in college. Would have been great for someone like me with no support system.
Edit: Heck, I couldn't even accept $100 prize money or a pair of shoes for winning a road race while in college. By my senior year, my little college fund had dried up and sure could have used a few extra dollars for food my last 3-4 months of school.

May or May not - "immediately" or not!

I played with a kid who as a Freshman was being hyped up by the coaches (this is H.S.) and was getting a majority of playing time. Taking some from older players. At first, it was fine - because truth be told - he was good! He went on to play major college basketball. If we ever got to where there were some bad plays/games/losses/etc. it almost always was brought up about "how much more attention in terms of coaching this Fr was getting"! Older kid's parents got involved and it got ugly. Human nature is a funny thing! I know the coaches in the applicable scenario are not the ones giving the player attention. That player who blocks for him who doesn't have a NIL deal though could still get in his feelings "Potentially"! As said, "if the kid is an blank hole"! If a team 1st mentality isn't "MANAGED" through the NIL era I almost guarantee you it will rear its ugly head. I don't know everyone, but human nature over the years in examples I know of or read about seem to point that "It has the potential to be disruptive in the locker room"! Again, not that the school or coaches have anything to do with it. It will have to be managed well and you had better have kids who can handle it.

Speaking for myself, if I were the OG blocking on my QB's blind side, and if he didn't share that kind of deal handsomely with me, and the other guys on the LOS that kept him on his feet, he wouldn't be healthy for to long. O Lines, and WR's are mostly responsible for a QB's success, and that is the name of that tune.
In pro FB, everybody accepts the cash that a position offers to pay them, so they better do the best job possible, but in college it's different, and if somebody is paying my QB huge sums of money, he better be looking out for the rest of us, or he will lose that contract, period!!!

We are going to see a lot of this in the first few years.

Then things will cool off. People are making wild speculation on who may or may not become successful. These things are incredibly unpredictable.
$1,4 million for 3 years at $20/autograph is 70,000.
70,000 people will not pay $20+ for an autograph of a redneck sitting on the bench. The only way this deal becomes profitable is if this kid becomes a superstar.
I’m not even sure 70,000 people would pay $20 for an autograph from Justin Fields.
But then I’m not someone that gets the autograph thing. I haven’t asked for an autograph since I was 12 years old.
I also don’t get grown men wearing jerseys. I think anyone beyond freshman or sophomore year in high school wearing the jersey of someone in college or the NFL is ridiculous.

Strippers in Columbus OH rejoice!
I’m sure he will make good decisions with the wisdom of a nineteen year old with nothing but time on his hands.
What could go wrong.
