Change was needed. We still don't know what all changes are going to happen (hopefully more). But I'm just not sure yet.
TCU plays in the no-defense league. When they played Michigan, they scored a lot, but Michigan helped them in every way imaginable. When they played Georgia, well we all know what happened there.
I'm sure the offense will work well against ACC competition but I mean, what wouldn't?
I am concerned that it won't stack up well against the bigger, stronger, faster defenses that we have to face to get to the playoffs and win.

Clemson recruits. That's why Scott being back should pay off with BIG time recruits. Special Jimmy and Joe's make your O go to the next level.

Are you saying that Drew Swinney in the slot doesn’t put fear into opponents? GR is not walking into a Chad Morris situation where you get DHop, Watkins and MBryant at the first practice. Major upgrades needed at WR.

Scott didn't recruit well at South Florida and he is gone. Assistant coaches can help in the process but Clemson's best recruiter is Dabo. That's the person that seals the deal with both the player and the parents. Now that we have some hope on offense he can focus on what he does best.

Don’t put too much hope in J.Scott to dramatically improve our recruiting success rate vs other programs.
As an analyst with lots of experience with WRs, I hope that J.Scott can improve how we evaluate prospective recruits … especially WRs.

I’ve been critical of Dabo the past few months in how disappointing the season was, and the previous season. From the hiring of assistants to the whole DJ #### show. He needed to do this. Clemson Football was getting stale and he recognized it. The team needed something new and different. Riley is that. Give him the opportunity. He’s young and will have different schemes and ideas, along with more talent and depth than he had at TCU.

these years.
Paul Johnson would have been a good hire at the time I suggested it, after Wake took us to the shed with Tammy Bowden at the helm. We had an undersized line, great backs, no WRs, and a good defense. It would have been a good fit.

And to your post CharlestonTom®, it's still about the Jimmy's and Joe's. And Riley will matter to recruits who are not all in on Dabo/Street. CK2/Riley will make magic together. And that will draw the recruits on Offense. Our two TX freshman O-linemen with Cade and Riley give us a strong Texas calling card for more OL in Texas. And WR's from all states will come when they see Cade/Riley show and the available targets.

I am counting on G.Riley getting much needed improvement out of CK2 with respect to decision making and in recognizing how to best maneuver in the pocket.
If G.Riley can teach that to CK2, then we should have a productive offense in 2023.

Come on man… you were satisfied! Our numbers did improve from 2021 but the fact that he defended DJ’s shoddy play turned me off. It was like we were not watching the same game.
And God forbid we average 5 yards a carry that meant we would have to abandon that and have DJ throw it even more.
I’m what many that disagree with me call a pumper which is fine with me, but Streeter was not one I could get behind. He had experienced enough to call the games a little better than what he did. Biggest gripe was the defense of DJ. I believe that will be the one thing that sticks out when I look back at his time here.

there, and the air raid offense isn't the only option out there.
Like I said, I'm glad about this. I think this will fit Cade well and we will improve. I hope so.
But I'm not celebrating like many here, pretending like this is the answer and we are going to win the NC next year because of it. We still have a long row to hoe.
BTW - Dabo defended DJ the entire time and even compared him to Steph Curry (which is insane.) Could Streeter have said anything different? Let's say he has a press conference and he says "Well DJ is our guy but he's playing like crap and can't really make a read on a defensive end, so we're trying to adjust around his shortfalls."?
Think about it.

Same as you, I’m glad that G.Riley is coming aboard.
As for G.Riley being the second coming of Mike Leach, Dave Clawson, or even L.Riley as far as innovative + wildly productive offenses, we should all get a drink of water and relax.
Anyone look at TCU’s points for each game of 2022?
There were some big numbers (OK and MI immiediately come to mind), but also several ho-hum offensive outputs against non-elite competition.
As others have already posted, personnel (which in Clemson’s case pertains primarily to WR) may be the factor that either makes G.Riley look great or average.
As for ACC defenses, NC State and FSU have had consistently good defenses. Other than K.State and, well, TCU, which other Big 12 team had a really good defense in 2022?
I sure hope that Tiger Nation does not get all apoplectic if we don’t score 35+ points every game in 2023.

Our new OC will have better talent across the board on his squad and will also have the luxury of the support of a better defense than he had in the Big 12.
Someone might accuse you of ignoring all the fact but you and I know this is more about your level of ability to access situations regarding football with a bit of common sense.

crystal clear. Their line was pretty good. They had 1 really good receiver and a few that are about the same as ours, maybe better. Their backs were average, probably worse than our first 2. I don't see such a crystal clear difference.

Tom
I think Mike Leach did OK the Air Raid offense at Miss State against some top SEC teams. And I think we will have better talent, better defense, and better running backs than Miss State. So I'm willing to go all in on this new offense.

I don't think a lot of people on this board understand the magnitude of this hire and why it is so good. This was literally the best OC hire out there for a reason and it has shook the college football world. Be unsold. I'm sold because I know what we are getting and I'm ecstatic about it. There wasn't going to be another guy out there for hire that is better than Riley for a while.
