Is the perfect example of the transfer portal
Listen y’all. There is always an outlier to prove your position. I think Covid has taught us that.
But listen. 1 player doesn’t prove anything. It’s the depth we need that we are losing to the portals. I appreciate Mario and he played an amazing game. But we can’t use this as an example.

That’s the point. Burrow was an outlier. And for dabo to use Mario as an example is just as silly. 1 person doesn’t prove anything. Every season we tend to have 1 player who exceeds their expectations. As we should.

If he had stayed at OSU, he might have still had a seller senior year.
The Portal is THE worst thing in college football. NiL is awful too.

Ok grumpy ol man. They are not. The greed of college coaches and agents are what’s wrong with the system. Not the kids.

Dude, I'm not blaming the kids. Read my message closely. And try to read AND comprehend this:
I blame the portal and NIL. I'm pretty sure adults came up with and installed the portal and NIL. Not the kids.

Grumpy old men with outdated beliefs, why do this?
As for me, I’ll go with one of the most successful coaches in college football history over just about anyone when it comes to what’s best for his program.

Exactly. Just like a kid in the transfer portal with a bad attitude isn’t reflective of all of them.***

The transfer portal (as in play right away) was implemented in October 2018. Joe transferred before that. He was eligible to play right away only because he was a grad transfer. Just a technicality.

Dabo has recognized publicly that the portal is good in some cases but for many it’s the wrong choice. Choosing to move to a less competitive program isn’t always the best decision for a young man. The Burrows examples have nothing to do with why Dabo objects to the portal. For every Joe Burrow there are 20 Kids taking the easy way out. Not a good life lesson.

And for every Mario Goodrich there are 20 kids wasting time sitting on the bench…. When if they aren’t going to the league anyway, shouldn’t they at heat have a shot to start on a team?
Chez did amazing at Wisconsin before he got hurt. Was that a bad decision? Chase at app State has been solid. Zerrick cooper at Jacksonville State was solid. Etc
I don’t disagree with dabos development approach, but to raise Mario as an example not to doesn’t justify his resistance to it.

How can you argue with Dabo's using Goodrich as an example? He was apparently an immature, pretty confused kid as a young player. He had not learned the lessons of being committed to his own improvement as a person and a player. Lots of the transfer portal guys are probably in that same category. Some players may benefit by transferring, but IMHO most would be better sticking it out. Life is tough, quitting is usually not the right solution.

Mario is a great story. Don’t get me wrong.
My point is his success doesn’t justify saying the portal is a bad choice or decision. Was it a bad decision for Chez? I don’t think so.

There is no more than a handful of transfer portal guys who could make our 2 deep each year. I have no idea why everyone thinks that the portal is full of people to help Clemson. There are a bunch of players who can help SC, but when you already have talent, there are few holes. The issues this year (beside tough QB play) - were the massive number of injuries. Then , when you take this handful of good players, you must overlay them with our gaps. That reduces it further. Then, regional factors and history based on their recruiting from high school. We might get 1 or 2. Same as Ohio state, Bama, UGA etc. the other schools brought up (like LSU and Burrow) are not relevant . First, why would we have brought him in with TL already here? And why would Burrow come just to sit on the bench - just like he did at Ohio state?

I am not saying we should have brought burrow.
My point is around dabos use of Mario as a reason against using the portal. It’s ridiculous.
Bama has a 5 year RB who finally started playing AND brings in transfers. If Dabo can’t manage his culture by trying to make his team the best possible then that’s in him.

Practically every young soul in The Portal has been drilled for 4-5 years that they are the next Joe Montana or Jerry Rice, etc. When they hit college and discover that they are a pin in a wheel and are already counting their gold instead of striving for a degree and a JOB. How BOARINGG...After clearing "waivers", they have no degree AND no gold...Then many find a street corner to become entrepreneurs and sell meth... The new American Dream gone awry...
