Is there any reason Bakich has been coming after Clemson baseball fans so hard?

I think he has been a quality hire so far but it feels a little weird that a baseball coach who was previously at 2 Big 10 schools feels the need to lecture us about fanhood.
“What we don’t need is people losing faith,” Bakich said. “They are going to anyways because that is what fans do that have never played and have no idea how to compete. But we don’t care. We don’t listen to it. We don’t care what people think. We’re going to get back and we are going to do out thing. They can jump back on the bandwagon or we will step on their fingers. Either way.”
So before you get upset that the bullpen gave up yet another lead, just remember it’s only because you don’t know how to compete and never have.
If he wants to say this in a team meeting that’s fine but I just find it weird he’s attacking fans in the press of all things. On top of all his other comments about how we need to sell beer and how Clemson fans aren’t rowdy enough, it’s just weird.

That was my reaction as well. We have some "fans" bashing our pitching rotation...not what we need as we are about to head into the ACCT.

Pick a sport and fans have an unrealistic expectation of winning every game. Wake up fans. Football might have an undefeated team, but basketball and baseball teams never go undefeated regardless of who is coaching. Screaming and yelling about coaches and players after the first inning or the under 16 time out is just immature and gets you nowhere because sometimes, you are simply not going to beat the other team.

You read my mind. He apparently read Tnet and discovered all the so called fans with hair on fire who don’t know jack about baseball, especially how college baseball works and is played.
Bakich has an ACC Championship under his belt already, has us ranked top 10, and is chasing a top 8 national seed. In his second season nonetheless! Yet so much criticism from ungrateful fans.
Give it some time, guys. He’s building a program to match what Dabo has done for football, and quicker than anyone could have imagined.

We’ve had a better year than I expected so I don’t think I’ve even made any negative comments this year.
That’s probably why I thought it was weird and completely out of no where that he felt the need to speak negatively about the fans. Especially seeing that his previous school averaged like 800 fans a game, you think he’d appreciate our much more dedicated fan base than anything.

dumb about the fans instead of how do you fix the bullpen. Kind of sounds like he listens to it though lol
I am glad he does not listen to fans or care what we think. He gets paid to do a job and it is not to provide lip service about a team that has been unable to close out games with the bullpen.
Focus on issues, get them fixed or all fans will understand we just do not have the arms to make it happen this year. That is ok, get to work on the recruit trail and see if we can get better in the future.

with the pitching. They are human, and feeling pressure to fix issues can be a heavy burden even if you are paid a lot to do it. As a fan I get on TNET and show my displeasure with losing leads, frustrating to see it. No real need to bring fans into it. Dabo has earned a bit of extended leash because of his success, but calling out fans at any level is just not a smart idea.
I am pulling for him and this team, go Tigers!!

I would imagine he was asked a question about negative noise currently coming from fans. And he responded. Hopefully they steer clear of message boards and the like. This quote came fromam article on TCI.
Where did you see him comment on beer and fan rowdiness? I personally think we should do anything that will add revenue to our sports programs. They are selling beer everywhere and it has not been a major problem. I also think the athletic department could be a little more proactive in bettering fan involvement. The stupid crazy frog music and the other song they constantly play is embarrassing. Figure out a way to get the fans cheering more.

Let me clarify, I definitely have no issue with them selling beer and if he can pull a rowdier crowd to Clemson baseball games 3 times a weekend then I’m all for it. And honestly his idea about converting the Cajun Cafe into an actual restaurant or public area would be way better.
I think it was mainly the idea that fans only complain because they have never competed in their life. I’d venture a lot of Clemson baseball fans have to compete fairly hard on a daily basis, just maybe not on an athletic field. That’s just a weak response when your team got swept.

He is talking about the small vocal group of Clemson fans that erupt on message boards during every loss and rough stretch of season like we may as well pack it in. I do agree with you that the coach should avoid negatively addressing the fans as much as possible. It generally does no good.

Fans work and face the daily trials of life. The legitimacy of of relevant experiences facing difficult circumstances is not limited to sports. Their baseball fandom is not based on being a former player or some expert of the game. Many Tiger fans support all things Clemson and enjoy the sport solely from a fan’s perspective. Casting shade on fans from coaches is weak sauce even if the fan are disgruntled and maybe lack specific knowledge of the game.

I believe it was in a TCI article a couple of weeks ago about the beer and fans being rowdy.
Sell beer and kick that sorry Aramark to the curb. The food is just basic. And sell Clemson Ice Cream!
I’ve been sayin this for years. Aramark is mid. Our concessions lack big time comparing to many around the country and even in conference and those guys down in the midlands. Even the premier seating you just get basic food.

Just relax Jimmy..there has never been an undefeated
baseball team at this level and above or at least I've
never heard of one. Our team will be fine and the coach
knows more about baseball and coaching than we (fans) do.

Because Clemson baseball fans are the same ones who sit in the lower bowl of basketball games and are older and passive...the football crowd can be raucous...basketball and baseball crowds leave a lot to be desired!!!
