IS DABO INTERESTED IN REPLACING SABAN
Dec 13, 2021, 2:12 PM
|
|
When Saban retires? If so, he will be highly motivated to continue to focus on winning natties at Clemson because If he does, he gets the job if he wants it. Saban is 70 YOA. There are only 4 HC 70 or older in College FB. I give Saban 2 more years, 3 at most. No one wants to follow a legend in any sport, but I believe Dabo could continue to win as much as Saban at Alabama.
Here are the four :
1)---Frank Solich. Now 76 years old, Solich, the head coach of Ohio, is the oldest head coach in college football, and the only head coach who was 70 or older in the 2020 college football season.
2)---Mack Brown Currently the head coach at North Carolina, Brown will turn 70 is August of 2021.
3)---Nick Saban Currently the head coach at Alabama, Saban will turn 70 in October of 2021, just one month after Brown.
4)---Butch Davis Currently the head coach at FIU, Davis will turn 70 in November of 2021.

Solich left two weeks before this season started. He's out of coaching.
And no, you never say never, as Dabo himself says, but he's not going to leave a Clemson program he was the architect of to be the caretaker of a program Nick Saban built. The culture is not remotely compatible...and I don't think they'd really look hard at Dabo anyhow. They know it.

You don't want to be the guy that replaces Saban. You want to replace the guy who replaces Saban. Expectations will be unrealistic.

I don't think Dabo would have any problem at Bama. He would thrive even right after Saban. That said, I don't think he goes there anyway.

I am thinking that if there is one job Dabo would want it would be Alabama .However if Saban were to win, say 2 more Natty's that would be a hard act to follow for anybody. However if Dabo can nab 2 more himself ,then the chances go up he would be interested.

Alabama may not be interested in Dabo unless he shows he'll start taking Transfers lol. A lot of programs aren't interested in doing things the right way or the old school way anymore. I think Dabo retires at Clemson tho personally, he's invested so much time and effort in this program, I don't think he'll want to start over anywhere else.

Yes, if you believe the story about the phone call made by a big OK booster to Dabo approximately 4 weeks ago.

Called in to Wccp, noon to 3 show last week, was correct on some stuff, said CDS was offered OU job initially, said no, but added he'd have to a clause that allowed him an easy exit, if Bama came calling-claimed his info came from a big OU booster-short version of the caller's story

Now read that back to yourself. Does that seem reasonable?

Dabo was offered OU, turned it down in what would appear to be short order. No tours…no meeting with the board…no talk of salary…nothing that hit Hood’s radar or started any rumors on TigerNet…BUT…Dabo wanted to point out to them that he’d want an exit clause for Bama. THAT was a detail he had to get out first?
And you believe that because a random caller said it on sports radio?

Dabo is in danger of not being as appealing to Bama as he was.

Years like this one wouldn’t help his cause. Next year is unlikely to be a playoff appearance if we are being honest.
I believe Dabo will get us back to the playoffs, but it’s going to take a lot of work and probably a departure from the recent rash of internal coaching promotions.

Translation: I believe Dabo will get us back to the playoffs when he stops coaching like Dabo and stops using the system that he implemented from the very beginning and starts something more in line with what I, someone who has never coached a major college football program, supposes will work better because I believe in fantasy wish fulfillment.

You’re right, everything is perfectly fine and nothing needs to change.

And you know this based on all of your experience coaching a major college football program, right?

I think Dabo would seriously consider and probably take the job if offered.
I also think Alabama wouldn't even consider him. They will probably go for another big name coach with NFL experience.

Who would want to replace Saban? IMO a losing proposition. Coaches say one thing and do another so who knows what the future holds. Right now I think Bama fans get off on giving Clemson a hard time by bringing this up. In the end we just need to continue to support our team and coach and make sure that they know as a fan base we are All In and supportive.

I have been read.
If Dabo is serious about leaving my school for Bama, he’s better really try hard and win more national championships, or Bama will pass on him.
He has two. More than any other active college coach that could replace Saban…and you’re concerned that he doesn’t have a strong enough resume for them to poach Dabo from us…and advising that Dabo better start working really hard if he wants to leave us?
