If you could reverse one Clemson loss,

Excluding the 2015 and 2019 national championship games, what would it be?
I’d have to go with the 2020 loss to Ohio State. I heard snack from pasty white Ohio State blimp I knew after that game. It was one of their greatest heartaches to have never beaten Clemson

I really don't think winning that game would have made any difference for our team. We simply had issues last year on offense. Quarterback play, receiver play, offensive line play, you name it... we had issues. Hopefully those issues have been worked out for the 2022 season.

I agree. 2020 showed that DJU has talent. I would have liked to see him play with the confidence a win over the nations best defense would have given him. I think that win would have been a huge shot in the arm for the entire team.

After losing and putting up with WVU fans after the game, at work, a WVU fan that was a peer sounded as bad as all the fans after the game put together. However, I got my payback 4 years later when he worked for me and it wasn't sports related and it wasn't malicious because he did it to himself. I just got to take care of the problem.

Without the WVU embarrassment, Brent V would not have come to town and likely no 2x rings to follow.
While that was a brutal game, the goal line fumble for TD was killer, I wouldn’t change that outcome because of what it ultimately led to.
I’d go with the first Bowden bowl. Yeah, if Tommy wins that one, maybe there is no Dabo, but that may have changed the trajectory of the program earlier.

That would also clear a lot of records for points in a bowl game. That shovel pass to the WR in motion killed us. I disagree only because of one factor. After that 2012 Orange Bowl loss we went and got Venables as our DC. That proved to be the kick in the pants we needed.

And it still took OT for us to find a way to lose though DJ tried all game to give it away. We win that game we are I. The ACC championship we would beat Pitt based on how the team was playing by then and who knows where we ended up in the post season. It would have changed the whole perception of the season.

1984 Georgia in Athens so I would not have had to witness the Tigers in person that day sitting in the upper deck of Sanford stadium squander a decent halftime lead and then see Kevin Butler kick a 60 yard field goal in the closing seconds to win

Sorry it has to be 2 games; the losses to both N.C. State and Pitt last year. Just my opinion, but we could have lost to Georgia and still made the playoffs by going 11-1 in the regular season and then winning the conference title game. But the loss to State knocked us out of the top 5 and so did Pitt, which knocked us out of the top 10,making it impossible to climb back high enough to get into the CFP scenarios with 2 losses, let alone 3.

Alabama 2017. We would have a 3-1 record vs Saban in the playoffs and would have had a very competitive game against Georgia for the Natty in Atlanta.
Winning 2020 Ohio State would have meant nothing in the nations eyes as people already doubted them and ran us straight into the buzz saw that was Alabama that year.

Other than natty vs LSU, no consequential games
May 4, 2022, 10:29 AM
|

WVU Orange Bowl was sickening, but a catalyst for needed change, so not that one.
There are three candidates that come to my mind, none mentioned yet. I attended 2 personally, and watched the third on TV:
1) January 1, 1992 vs Cal - One of my most miserable experiences as a fan in the stands. It was a rotten all-around trip, punctuated by a horrible game. 2) October 9, 1994 vs Georgia in Athens - My only away game at Sanford Stadium, and it will stay that way. Went with a buddy and ran our mouths before the game. Paid $20 to a local to "guard" my car during the game (his suggestion, and one I decided it might not be prudent to refuse), then we got shellacked and my buddy and me snuck out of town late at night with our tails between our legs. 3) January 1, 1996 vs Syracuse - Caught this one on the tube at the Mangy Moose in Jackson Hole. Nursing a bad hangover from the night before, I skipped skiing that morning to watch the game. I had gotten engaged earlier in the week, and was looking forward to a big win. Screw Donovan McNabb! Well, at least I got the girl, and am still married to her after 25+ years.

Would have been win over #1 team, had them on the ropes. I feel that Tommy gave that one to daddy to not ruin his season. Might result in preventing FSU BCS appearance. Highest attended game ever at Clemson, quite the atmosphere.

I’ll second the loss to GT in 2000. If Clemson wins that game, the outcome the next week probably would still be a loss, but it wouldn’t have been 54-7. Beat SC, and with a 10-1 record, probably a trip to a BCS game.
That’s still the toughest ride home after a game.

Definitely, without a doubt, the 2015 National Championship loss to Alabama. We should have been back to back Champions, and 3 out of 4 years. I will always think we were the better team in that game.
