Just my opinion

Jan 31, 2015, 3:24 PM

It's already a given, we are going to have a wonderful state-of-the-art arena and I am very excited. There is one fact about the arena that concerns me, the capacity. I understand supply and demand, I understand we have a hard time filling it now, I get that BUT.....we as Clemson fans, especially Clemson fans have to believe and have faith in our future. To build for a successful future, we must dare to dream big.....and that means more than 8500 seats. I believe in time, we will regret spending the money to build a beautiful arena that is too small. Just my thoughts and regardless of the size, it will be a great improvement which this program richly deserves! Go Tigers, dream BIG!!!

Cameron Indoor seats much less than LJ current.

Jan 31, 2015, 3:38 PM

That type of small, rowdy environment could only enhance our defensive efforts.

Yes but rad thinks everyone should be connected so instead of cheering the students will be busy tweeting to their friends. I think that and fewer seats is a bad ide.

Anyone w any sense realizes if you spend a bunch of money and spread over fewer seats tix prices go way up

Cameron seats 10,000 just like the current LJ.***

I Completely Agree.......

Jan 31, 2015, 3:49 PM

We WILL live to regret that. We can fill 11,000 seats if we ever get a consistent program going. we discussed that today while at the game.

It is past time that something was done for our BB program to show recruits that Clemson is determined to be a contender in basketball. Little John was last upgrade 1/5/2003, and that hasn't been good for recruiting. I do believe that if Brad Bradnell is given what's needed to attract good solid players, he will keep us on an average a top 5 or 6 basketball program in the ACC. Top 5 or 6 programs from the ACC has a legitimate chance to beat any program in the league.

I was skeptical about reducing the capacity, although

Jan 31, 2015, 5:47 PM

I see no need to ever increase it. Going down to 8,500 is not a good idea IMHO, but staying at or around 10,000 is all we'll ever need and then some.

Game in and game out, 10K capacity is about right for Clemson's potential drawing power no matter how well the team is doing. We may want more seats occasionally, but most nights, we will have a lot of empty seats even in the best of seasons.

Duke is a great small environment because it's always 98% filled with rabid Duke fans. And remember, Duke is a basketball school playing in a metro area with over 1.5 million people.

What we really want is a smaller arena that is ALWAYS filled with Clemson fans ... and not a place half filled with Tar Heels when UNC comes to town.

We want and need to consistently fill whatever sized arena we build even for the lesser games with rabid Tiger fans. And that has never happened in Clemson history, even in years when we've fielded Elite 8 and Sweet 16 caliber teams.

That's a considerate comment. +1***

The Cow Palace was filled with rabid fans every game.

It filled during the frosh game most of the time. Maybe not luxurious, but a lot of fun and a huge
home court advantage.

Clemson now has almost 22,000 students and plans on increasing to 30,000. What size arena do we need for the
future for basketball and other events such as graduation and
concerts? I don't know, but I would like to hear more discussion from both university and athletic department officials.

very good post..yo
u sir are correct

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If we provide fewer seats we can charge more for each.

Jan 31, 2015, 6:15 PM

I know students and we other poor people don't like this but it's an economic reality. I suspect a study during the conception stage of this project revealed this to the board.

I'll ##### with you but personally I'd be damed if I'd supply more than could be sold. It's just not economically practical to have voids in the building and it makes any building a lot louder if it's packed to capacity.

I believe Ga Tech's is old number of seats...

Jan 31, 2015, 7:53 PM

When they rebuilt their arena like Clemson will do, it was also downsized a little. I think it is also 8500.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yep, got the name right, but

Jan 31, 2015, 8:26 PM

that's the old capacity for when it was still called Alexander Memorial

interesting, they added a club level, etc.. but only lost ~500 seats

if you look at the building and program assessment done for LJ, the GT arena was the closest 'comp'

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I like it. Sure LJ fills up on giganticon games, but there's

Jan 31, 2015, 8:00 PM

a LOT of empty too often. Students may have to show up to the warm-up games and go nuts to earn seats for when league play rolls around.

The new arena is going to be a tight and compact rocking madhouse a lot more often as an 8500 seat arena than anywhere close to where it is now. Empty seats suck the life out of a home team. It'll be a sought after ticket instead and a much more engaged crowd, which is what this program needs.
