And she's not even running anymore, nor can she win.
Again, I'm out of the politics/issue/ideology game at the moment because none of that matters when things are dysfunctional. But my question is simple, WHY!!!???
WHY are our choices a nearly octogenarian narcissistic populist who is about to go to jail, versus a shuffling, demented, 81yo sitting President who does well to string together enough words for a sentence? And these are our ONLY CHOICES? 3 people. In EIGHT YEARS, Americans have had a choice of just three human beings to lead the free world. Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, or Donald Trump. I'm not sure I'd want any of them leading a cubscout pack, much less the United States.
Is the groupthink really that bad, or is something else happening? Is it the parties themselves who have folded? I think the bigger problem is people are running for an office, and offices, with far more power and influence than they should have. This attracts the WRONG TYPES of human beings. Just read where a Congressman who sits on a powerful energy committee (forget his party, but that doesn't matter) invested thousands in a company his committee later voted to grant a huge contract to. He's up 34% on that stock. And crickets from the SEC. Yes, through insider trading, mainly through pumping and dumping stocks USING OUR TAX DOLLARS (technically our children's tax dollars), Congressmen and women are getting rich, and it's illegal, and certainly beyond unethical at a minimum.
There is NO TRACTION in Washington, DC for anything GOOD for the country. Term limits, good for the country, NOT any politician. Cutting spending? Good for the country, bad for any politician. Banning stock trades by members of Congress? GOOD for the country, bad for the politicians. Banning illegal immigration? GOOD for the country, bad for the politicians (and the economy). Having someone other than the federal government be in charge of releasing economic data? GOOD for the country, bad for the politicians. I'm afraid America has spent far too many years benefiting from BAD things, that the good things will never be done to end the bad things. Because when you spend too long benefiting from bad things, the good things hurt more and more when they're done.
I think this election is happening because it must happen. I think Trump flew into the scene in 2016 on being "different", but America realized that's NOT the different we want. There is a HUGE demand out there for someone to speak the truth, for once. To explain WHY the problems we have are never fixed, no matter who we vote for or who runs the show. To be candid, honest, and lay everything on the table. That's only something a good person could do, and again that's not who Washington attracts, and CERTAINLY not someone Washington rewards. Quite the opposite. At this point, I'm not even sure a truly "good" candidate could survive. Literally. Because a good candidate would tick off republicans, democrats, (almost) all of Congress, and might as well have a target tattooed on their forehead. Even if they were effective at convincing and educating the American people of the problem(s) we face, there's 534 other people in Washington DC who will recoil, in a bipartisan manner, as the truth hurts and both parties are complicit in out situation, and any solution to the common problems we face will necessarily tick off both parties, and the ill-informed (that last part is key btw).

we're in that awkward stage between realizing that there's not a political fix to this problem, and the shooting starts.
Men and women need to man and woman up and MAKE the political system accountable or it's really not going to end well. I'd vote 'no labels' if someone would propose some actual fixes to the system.
The geyser of cash out of DC has to stop, period.

Jesus Christ, we know Biden is a terrible president. Trump was a terrible president and y'all are still operating under the faulty assumption he was good because you think it's a slam on you personally if you admit he wasn't.
We had the solution, albeit it temporarily. Haley was conservative, she was good for business, and she'd calm all this rhetoric down.
We all recognize the problems in DC; they're not getting solved without a complete cleansing of career politicians.
But we are proper ###### after this November. It will be four years of disaster whoever wins; it'll just be a different type of disaster.

I feel like a broken record just constantly pointing out how our politicians benefit from stocks, lobbyists, and campaigning. So how do people see this as a problem then go "But Trump though, he'll solve this issue!" The dude practically walks around with a sign that says "now accepting $$$ for political favors."

actually. Fully 90% of the nations problems lie in the one branch that has had a sub 25% approval rating for decades now.
What can a President do to cut spending? Veto every bill from Congress? Then the government collapses. It's NOT an anomaly that the only time Congress has balanced a budget, in my lifetime anyway, was when Bill Clinton had the use of the line item veto. Congress could send him the 1997 Feed the Starving Children Act, and Clinton could strike the $20 million allocated for $900 toilet seats for the DoD, and the $10 million to study the breeding habits of Peruvian iguanas, etc. that were ALL IN THE FEED THE STARVING CHILDREN BILL.
One possible solution to our debt is reactivating the line item veto to give the President discretion at what he signs into law. If the Supreme Court can strike down Roe, they can do that. Otherwise, the only recourse is Article V, or a revolution.

It's not even close.
He inherited a country in a literal dumpster-fire on both health and economic fronts. Our economy has roared back quicker than from any recession in my lifetime. The rollout of vaccines under his watch was quick and orderly, and we were able to essentially put the pandemic behind us in 2022.
And the other thing: Biden respects and promotes Democracy. Trump does not. Trump is an authoritarian, who's favorite people are dictators.
It's crazy that we're looking at these two choices as if they'll both be disasters, when only one is a disaster.

Ross Perot. The political establishment went great guns against Ross Perot; Perot’s campaigns revealed the futility of seeking the presidency as an independent candidate.
Performance would have been an outstanding president.
Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg entered high level politics via his successful mayoral campaign. So Bloomberg doesn’t count. Yet, for the sake of this thread’s arguments, Bloomberg publicly waffled back and forth between the major political parties; doing that doomed him (along with his meager influence on the federal bureaucracy and the main stream media as far as his presidential campaign).
(*). The lessons from both the R.Perot and M.Bloomberg presidential campaigns is that a candidate must choose to run as either a Democrat or as a Republican, and that switching back and forth between those parties doesn’t work.
Donald Trump. He learned from both Perot and Bloomberg. To defeat the inevitable media assaults that so damaged Perot and Bloomberg, Trump bypassed the MSM and was stupendously effective via use of Twitter for messaging purposes. Trump was (and still is) among the most high energy persons on earth, and his emotional & psychological toughness is nearly unimaginable. Although not as intelligent as either Perot and Bloomberg (both of whom were flat out brilliant), Trump is nevertheless a highly intelligent man.
(***). In summary, Trump had the advantage of learning from both the Perot and Bloomberg POTUS campaigns. So I would say that Trump’s luck was to learn from Perot and Bloomberg, and to squeeze in before the federal government figured out that they needed to coercively conspire with the non-traditional news platforms to prevent another outsider from ever threatening to disrupt the federal bureaucracy that has so meticulously cultivated both the Democrat and Republican parties.

Washington needs a few things....

1) End of Gerrymandering, so that more House seats could be truly competitive. Probably the most important thing that can happen.
2) Ethics & Lobbying reform. We need a SCOTUS that will reverse the Citizens United ruling, which opened the door to dark money in politics, and was awful for a transparent Democracy. Probably the 2nd most important thing that can happen.
3) An understanding by both parties that lowering deficits will involve not just spending cuts, but also tax increases.
4) Women's abortion rights restored. If not through SCOTUS, then through a national law passed by Congress & signed by the President.
5) A renewed commitment to Democracy by both parties. We are both a Democracy and a Republic. They are not independent of each other. Pretending that we're not a Democracy, or that we don't support Democracy abroad, does enormous damage to this country.
6) The potential movement of some of our major federal agencies out of DC into other parts of the country. This would go a long way in some situations to bringing more trust between agencies & citizens.

It's also funny that every couple of years some member of congress will propose moving federal agencies out of DC. It would save money both in terms of real estate and wages. For some reason it never goes anywhere, the obvious reason being that lobbyists and companies who profit from government spending find it more convenient if everyone is in DC.

Indiana, we can recall, is the home state of former governor and current TDS’er Mike Pence. Pence was very popular in Indiana and still possesses powerful name recognition and an outwardly nice persona. People with very limited understanding of public policies and who place strong emphasis on politicians who portray themselves as ‘good people,’ as proven by their facile recitation of self-described tired tropes such as ‘compassionate conservative, evangelical Christian, peace through strength, etc’ live Pence.

You can't bring yourself to admit anything bad about the guy, even though it's obvious to everyone who isn't deep in the fever swamp with you.
Trump is old and he appears to be in bad health. He can't even stay awake at his trial, and he farts alot. He's overweight. And when he gives speeches, he mangles alot of lines and forgets names all the time.
It's ridiculous to call Joe Biden or Hillary or Nikki authoritarians, when the guy you supported tried to do a coup, in order to violently overturn a legitimate election. The Big Lie still exists to this day, because Trump is a loud-mouth fascist who repeats simple slogans for The Red Hatted masses.
