The Paw Bearer

The Paw Bearer, a Clemson icon, has been sidelined. The Paw Bearer is a 67 hearse that has been a tailgating vehicle since 1981. She made it to the Wofford game, but the motor seized. A replacement motor has been found and it should be ready for the Notre Dame game. To help with the cost, a gofundme has been set up. There are tickets available for the big games and you would be helping a Clemson icon. If you have ever had your picture taken in front of the Paw Bearer, donate a dollar! Any help is appreciated. Go to: gofundme.com / The-Paw-Bearer.

We have a great time in it! 1981 was the first year. We took it to Miami! It has been in many bowl game parades since then . Even made the top 10 tailgating vehicles in the country this year.

Just curious, where did the $10k needed come from?

A good rebuild should be $3500-4000 tops, and alternatively a completely rebuilt long block can be found online in multiple places for less than $3k....figure $750-1000 for the labor to have that swap performed.
If it were me, I would forget about the 429 that came in that car and just buy a rebuild 472 or 500 Cadillac engine.

We found a 72 Cadillac hearse and we are in the process of taking out the motor in the Paw Bearer and replacing it with the 472 that is in the 72 hearse. $3900 to rebuild or get a replacement motor give or take. $1200 for the 72 Cadillac. $1000 to swap motors in and out. While motor is out, we guess we will spend $500 or more for brakes and servicing. There is no AC....guess that wasn't a priority for a funeral?? Any monies we collect over all this was going to be used to paint or wrap.

That's the plan as long as everything goes well with the engine swap.
