Feel like our approach with the QB position

Should be getting us the elite HS recruits, being that we don’t seem to portal search for that position. All these other top programs get portal players and top recruits. Money talks I guess! Hoping Hebert is more elite than his rankings so far! Jury still out on Vizz I guess.

Clemson and Dabo are not likely to be aggressive in the portal. Dabo and lack of money are driving this approach. Portal guys want money, playing time and Clemson is not looking to get into bidding wars.

Meant we should be getting the best of the Hs recruits because Dabo is loyal to giving them a shot and not dipping in the QB portal.

High school recruits want the money too. Universities will start paying ninth grade kids to lock them down. When the NCAA does not enforce the rules that are on the books, you have the Wild West of college football.

Is it lack of money? Last time I checked our donor pool was very strong. I can’t remember the last time we took a loan for expansions/renovations. It’s more of it’s against his principle. We also have a pretty strong NIL program. Former CEO of CitiBank has built a strong program. Dabo would rather use NIL as reward for string play and academics. I feel this is why we’re getting left behind.
See Alabama the day after the loss: They were begging for donations to their NIL collective to “level the playing field.” They are already looking for the best players money can buy. We’re trying to develop the best players we can coax to come for free and future promise of NIL money with performance.
This is why NIL and the portal have destroyed college football. It’s NFL free agency without a salary cap. We’re losing because we refuse to play he game.

I think money is more of a convenient excuse than a real problem. We may not be the highest bidder but we could be competitive if we decided that was a direction we wanted to go.

I hear ya about Dabo not wanting to go in the portal. He has done a great job recruiting without that. But let's not pretend Clemson doesn't have money. Sure we can't compete with the top guys but we are at least top 25 in that category. We wouldn't have led on things like the football building if not.

I think if Cade develops he can be elite… but it won’t look “elite” like DW, TL, Burrow. , or Pennix. Cade can be elite if he reaches peak efficiency…like JJ McCarthy. If his decision making and situational awareness get better he can be elite in his own way.
The turnovers and the poor situational decision making are really hampering the offense.

Good comparison on McArthy. They are similar in size. McArthy is a little more bulked up but not much. Cade needs to kill it in the weight room this off season.

Not if you structure it the right way like everyone is doing. EVERYONE except us.

That is the question. Are other schools able to structure it legally? This is a subject that is beyond my expertise. Hopefully someone with knowledge of how other school’s NIL organizations are structured can chime in.
My opinion right now is that Clemson is one of the few schools that is not cheating with NIL. I will admit that I am wrong if I see information that proves otherwise.

We have been getting elite QBs for the last 8-10 years. All have not played elite but they were near the top coming out of HS

secret sauce approach that he built this program up with. While yes, we have financial resources to incentivize recruiting, we will never be able to compete head to head in that area with the many much larger and robust institutions out there. It's simply a matter of numbers. So while this current free for all unfolds all over, I appreciate Dabo sticking to his guns and philosophy and continuing to differentiate us from the rest in that regard. As the dust settles from the wild west stampede, I expect us to still be standing strong considering the foundation he's established.
