Entire O Line Not Moving On Offsides Play

Sep 21, 2013, 11:30 PM

I guess I get it.. but it seems everyone does this now? If you think the D Line was offsides at the snap, entire O line doesn't move an inch while the rest of the offense continues with the hopefully free play. What exactly is the point of the whole line staying in stance?

The defense sees the line being still and hesitates. Could open up a big play on the offsides calls.

Also, helps the refs to get the urge to pull the flag out***

I assume you mean mainly secondary and linebackers? D Line gets through them so quickly, QB has to chuck the ball quickly before getting flattened. I would worry this could lead to an unnecessary QB injury or a jump-ball thrown up for an INT and then no subsequent offsides flag thrown. Seems a bit of a gamble in that regard.

Yep, this is something that Trickett at FSU started teaching his players a few years back. Then we started doing it the next season. I don't like it

its smart and stupid at the same time..

could break a huge big play.but with no o line blocking your qb could get laid out
