She chose to extend her “protest” in the form of attacking/denigrating soldiers. That is never ok. The soldier follows orders in defending our country and its interests. If someone doesn’t like the actions, then protest the government (Congress, President, etc.).

Just like slavery was not unique to America. In fact the Muslims and the blacks have done far worse than America. Slavery is still going on. America and white Europeans actually were the first to try and put slavery behind us. To grow beyond it. But people like you only see history through your deluded ideological brainwashed viewpoint!

Can’t prove anything I post as false so you rely on ad hominem attacks, which actually leads to me having more credibility not less. It makes you look like the one that’s not credible.

You seem to know a lot about Viet Nam and the atrocities. They are never excusable, but it is a product of war, unfortunately). I was there for a year and never saw a single atrocity, but saw many acts of kindness and many Americans helping the Vietnamese people. If all you do is pick out the bad things that happened, like the networks do, don't you think it should be balanced with many of the things that were done for the good. Many brave Americans gave their lives for that country and their sacrifices should not be denigrated by not acknowledging that they were fighting for a cause that was indeed worth fighting for. The history of our involvement in Indo-China goes way back before what you probably know so it wasn't as easy as you may think to have walked away.

Having an opinion is one thing.
Sep 1, 2022, 4:13 AM
|

We have the right to peacefully assemble and protest in America and have differing political opinions. At least for now anyway. A certain degree. Of course the Biden admin doesn’t believe that. The Democrats and the media don’t believe that. Which is why they’re going after their political enemies. Which is why they’re crapping all over the first amendment. which is why the FBI is beyond corrupt and always has been from its founding by J Edgar Hoover. Which is why the FBI instigated the Gretchen Whitmer kidnapping. Which is why the FBI has been involved in a lot of things that have happened over the last handful of years trying to blame Trump. Which is why the FBI was heavily involved in January 6.
But what Jane did was unforgivable. That was beyond having an opinion. It was giving comfort and aid to the enemy. It was treasonous.

She was always right. The only thing that was unforgivable was sending our trrops to be put in danger and to kill and destroy others in the process. Its no different than the Japanese attacking us.

You’re conflating her opinions with her actions.
Sep 5, 2022, 1:10 PM
|

Her feelings on the war ultimately were correct. Her actions and what she did were treasonable.
The fact that you can’t distinguish between the two is because of your left-wing ideological bias and brainwashing.
Just because you do something because you think you have the right intentions or motivations doesn’t mean what you did was a good thing or the right thing.

She is a Hollywood elitist who met with the North Vietnamese and had photo ops on top of their guns. She called our soldiers returning from Vietnam “hypocrites and liars”. She also stated that the torture of American POWs was “understandable”.
You can protest a war without getting pictures taken with those fighting and killing our men. You can protest without insulting our soldiers.
My father had a good friend who was hit by shrapnel in the head and killed on his second tour in Vietnam.
She is a vile person.

I had no problem with her protesting the war. My problem is that she took it far past war protesting. She attacked. Our soldiers personally. She hung out with the NVA and was actively participating in their war effort. She directly caused a group of POWs to be tortured by betraying their confidence.

I’m not a veteran and I didn’t see her on JF tonight. I’ll try to find it. I do remember those times and they were awful times. I honor you clover65 for your service to your country and to those you served with.
I remember the legacy of the Fonda family in film and the transition from Henry as Wyatt Earp to Peter in Easy Rider and Jane from Barbarella to “Hanoi Jane”. I think I recall that she regretted her visit to North Vietnam as being seen as disloyal to US soldiers but it was a really big deal at the time!
I hope you are well and I’d love to buy you a beer some time if ever we should meet!

Didn't see it tonight, but I date a girl who looks EXACTLY like JF (as she looks today, or maybe a few years younger... we're technically old folks, but age is just a number.) Perfect strangers approach her and say, "OMG! You're Jane Fonda...!(?)" She politely sets them straight and then equally-politely explains how much she hates "Hanoi Jane" because of her political stance and comments to the media during the war. I know Fonda has tried to apologize for that, but memory is long and unforgiving... (kinda like my Schl-ong.)

Good grief! Get over it! She's ####### 80 something years old and was in her 20's during the war. That was 60 years ago. Let it go. I'd love to have a girlfriend who looked like Jane Fonda. I'd tell her to say, "yea, I'm Jane Fonda, nice to meet you."

Some things you just don't forgive. If you know exactly what she did and what it cost some of our POWs there could never be forgiveness, no matter how long. Besides, her "regret" has probably more to do with her Q rating than actual remorse. Like Sean Penn's antics as we prepared to cross into Iraq, I have zero use for her.

Have to agree. Not one person on here hasn't grown since they were in their teens and 20's. Besides everyone lapped it up when she was married to Ted Turner and sitting in that box and rooting for the Braves.

Appreciate your historical perspective on / expression of regret from / J.Fonda.
(?) Do you know of any general time frame for when (if ever) J.Fonda expressed her regret ... using a major media platform ... about her 'Hanoi Jane' behavior?
I'm guessing that there was no such 'regret confession' from her while on J.Fallon.
Thanks.

Birds of a feather flock together. With all the anti-US crap and BS she was involved in and Jimmy Fallon hammering conservatives and now being charged in a Civil Suit about his knowledge, failure to act, and contacting a victim of sexual abuse just fits the bill.

People still watch that show? Literally, a third rate show. ">">
Fox News Channel host Greg Gutfeld had his highest-rated week ever last week, with his late night show Gutfeld! sweeping all of the broadcast late-night hosts, CBS’ Stephen Colbert, NBC’s Jimmy Fallon and ABC’s Jimmel Kimmel. For the week ending August 12, Gutfeld! delivered an average total audience of 2.355 million viewers, outpacing The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (2.143 million viewers), The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (1.318 million viewers), and Jimmy Kimmel Live! (1.084 million viewers).

I vividly remember her visit to North Vietnam. Made me sick. Don't remember if it was while I was in Vietnam or after I returned in 1966. Nice looking lady but I have never had respect for her after that visit which I considered a kick in the teeth for our country and those serving in Nam.

There are a lot of people on this board that need to get a life. Jane Fonda's antics were over 50 years ago. Get over it! I, who was in the Army during Vietnam, but did not go there, think we should have been more concerned over the generals, politicians, and bureaucrats who lied to us and got over 57,000 boys needlessly killed. When we lost that engagement, the world did not end as our leaders had suggested. Instead, we buy clothes made there now. What a colossal waste of precious lives.

Regardless of what the people in charge did wrong, I won't ever respect Jane. And nobody knows what we lost better than someone who was there or questions the way it was handled. I wasn't there long before I asked how our presence made anything better for the innocent civilians (mainly kids) who were being harmed by both sides. And I shook General Westmoreland's hand knowing his decisions had affected many lives when he visited my ward at Walter Reed and suspected he had many regrets by our conversation. But I guess that was normal while seeing most of the guys there without arms or legs.

Clover, many years after the war I had lunch with General Westmoreland up in Cashiers. I told him that I thought the young men who fought in Viet Nam were as brave and courageous as any war we had ever fought. He agreed and said " the American people just never did get behind the war" ..... which of course was true. It is difficult to fight any war without the support of the American people. You, who was severely wounded, my friends and men who were wounded, but especially those who gave their lives should not be dishonored and denigrated, because a few, like in all wars, lacked the judgement and discernment to do what is right. No soldier in a war is really fighting for the bigger cause, but for their fellow Soldier, Marine, Sailor, or Airman. They never assaulted a hill, dragged a wounded comrade back to safety, or otherwise risked their life because some politician in Washington bloviated about the reason were were in the war.

It was a war we should have stayed out of. Since we didn't stay out of it, we should have fought it to win it. The war industry was getting rich off the backs of our soldiers. We should have supported the soldiers whether or not we supported the war. They are patriots and heroes, not "baby killers".

Maybe I missed it but I don’t recall hearing Jane Fonda state that while she was against the Viet Nam war, she was wrong to sit in a North Vietnamese anti aircraft battery grinning like a Cheshire cat and basically accusing our POW’s of being liars.
I didn’t think the second Gulf War was wise nor the mission creep of Afghanistan but I sure as hell wouldn’t have chosen to hang out with Iraqi insurgents or the Taliban.
What Fonda did was totally inexcusable.
