Don't get in a wreck in the upstate people.

Our state decided to send 99.9 percent of the hwy patrol to the coast. Expect to wait 2+ hours. With that said, feel free to speed.

No reason? Have you ever been in a hurricane?

SC is not going to experience a hurricane as of this morning's forecast. At no time over the last 2 days has SC been in danger of experiencing a hurricane. As of right now, we will have some wind and rain starting Friday night and into Saturday.
This evacuation was premature. School being out for 3 days, also a premature bad decision.

the Hurricane won't care if the forecast was right or not when it decides to change course. Anyone who was around for Hugo would rather be safe than sorry.

Me, too. Was still working swing shift at that point, got off at midnight and drove home (only 7 miles, thank goodness) in 70-80 mph winds, in a Mazda 929.

Me too. We are staying put for this one too. If the forecast changes drastically, our back up plan is to check into a local hotel (I will NOT give the name of the hotel). They have a backup generator so I can watch football games IF power does go out. This storm will only be an inconvenience to Charleston if we lose power. The heck with driving 4 hours to get away from the storm. Then have to drive 4 hours back. Barrier Island residents might want to get a few miles away from the coast.
My 2 cents

Unfortunately you can't evacuate a million people in 1 day.

So you have to decide, too early or too late.
Can't plan a hurricane just right.
In cases like this you should be over causious.
1 life is too much to lose for the sake of convenience.
I'm sure if they waited and the Strom turned and people died you would stand up and take responsibly.
It is very eas to be right all the time on the internet.
I live in goose creek during hugo. People did not take it serious enough and people died.
My dad still lives in monks corner which is a good 30 miles from the coast and I've been trying to convince him to leave for 2 days.

and multiple times over the last two days (and right now), they are under a hurricane watch.
You don't know other people's situations, maybe they live on the peninsula under sea level... Maybe they are on front beach... Heck, maybe they want to go somewhere to be 100% sure the power doesn't go out during or before the game.
I'm happy for you that you are in a safe position and able to stay, just as my family is, but don't think your situation is the same for everyone. Category 1 and even tropical storms can be deadly.

You're a fool, Governor Hodges lost his job because he didn't evacuate soon enough and reverse i26 when Floyd was coming; thank God it turned last minute so people were only stuck in their cars on the interstate with mild winds. Can't wait until last minute with over a million people and only i26 to get them out cause 17 is useless with a storm coming up the coast. Haley made the perfect call. Better safe than sorry and to have no options.
