5 yd cushion + no pressure = recipe for failure on 3rd down

Nov 25, 2012, 1:16 AM

Same story all year - we get them to 3rd and long, then bail them out with an easy 11 yard pass to a wide open receiver. I honestly wonder where our LBs are half of the time, the middle of the field is so empty every time the QB scrambles up the middle and no one is fronting the receivers. I honestly don't know if it's just a lack of talent or scheme too - what do y'all think?

I'd be happy to just leave someone in the middle regardless.

Nobody ever 'shadows' the QB. It's been that way for most of the last 2 years.

I said this probably 10 times during the game tonight. We don't seem to catch on that a QB with two working legs can scramble up the middle all day - just have a QB spy playing zone 10 yds deep in the middle of the field, is it really that much to ask?

Anthony got BENCHED for Shuey becuase he isnt that great communicating the defense. so that's why they have Shuey in. .

interesting. i have wondered at times where shuey came from in the middle of the season, he seems to deliver a few good hits from time to time. seems like a solid tackler.

I'm not sure what the problem is either..but BV is a....

..good fellow and so he won't throw his players under the bus like SOS would....

5 yd cushion? Heck, I thought we gave them more than that.

For the most part, the QB scrambles(like the 19 yarder for a first down at the end, came when we called a blitz and that left the middle wide open. My question is, why call a blitz there? Just keep them in front of you and short of the sticks. Of course that didn't work to well either when we dropped 8 and let them complete it for a TD.

My humble theory is that this team's DBs are the least

Nov 25, 2012, 1:34 AM

physical and least talented group of players I have seen in a Tiger uniform in 35 yrs. Not sure where it goes from here, but I'm hopeful next year's frosh & RS frosh can play right away.

Agree. My biggest problem with them is playing

Nov 25, 2012, 1:36 AM

that far off, they still get beat deep and when the pass is completed in front of them, they miss the tackle half the time.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

seems like we end up with the DBs nobody else wanted thats the way they play***
