Cruz's announcement at Liberty a declaration of fealty to social conservatives. Such plays well in the South, but not at the broader level needed to win a national election. When Reagan appointed O'Connor to the Supreme Court, Liberty-founder Falwell said "every good Christian should be concerned"; Goldwater said "every good Christian ought to kick Falwell right in the ###." IMO, the GOP needs more Goldwater, less Falwell.
