Notre Dame not being in a conference will finally hurt them

A conference championship would have helped their chances of getting into the playoffs. Now they are most likely on the outside looking in and will probably be the #5 team. I'm thinking they would most likely have been the best team in the ACC this year and could have beaten Pitt or Wake.

Certainly didn’t help but even if they had played and won tonight in Charlotte, they are probably still no higher than 5. Who in the top 4 would they have jumped?

Hopefully the ACC uses this as leverage to get ND to become a full member of the conference. The ACC needs to make a move to get to 16 Teams. End of Story! Play 9 conf games and 3 out of conf. To me it just seems simple but I know its not.. too much money and political type games.

Idk, thinking a 1 loss P5 conference champ trumps

an undefeated mid major conference champ even with the head to head loss. And maybe UGA being a 1 loss runner-up. UCF was undefeated in 2017 and left out for a 1 loss SEC team (Bama) that didn't win their division and go to the SECCG. Probably none of that would matter anyway but who knows.

1 loss ND in the ACC definitely would have helped. Mind you I don’t think ND makes it through the ACC with 1 loss this year.
They may have played Clemson, Pitt, Wake etc.
Then played a ranked team in the ACCCG. I think the only thing that kept them out this year was the head to head loss to Cincy. If Cincy did not play ND, they would be on the outside looking in this year even if ND had 1 loss to their 0.
So I guess I just disproved my argument. Maybe ND does not need a conference.

they would have taken georgia out at 4. A champion ranked fifth, beating a ranked team, is going to go in over the second-place team that got thoroughly dragged by the new number one. now the committee has an excuse to say, "Okay, wasn't that bad."

For what NBC pays them vs losing that to the ACC, I'm not sure they really care... especially this year.

That’s no longer the case. The NBC contract is now less money than their share of what ACC television money.

Agreed. I believe I read they made more last year in the ACC than their NBC deal. Time for Phillips to turn up the heat on them and a new TV deal.

I should have scrolled down before I posted the exact thing ??. Their coach left em because of it too. They might have lost their opportunity already

This is why ND is pushing for a 12 team playoff with 6 at large bids. Read this morning that ACC is pushing for 8 team playoff with 2 at large….got to think this relates to not making life easier for ND to stay independent.

ND is getting what they deserve. IMO, they should not have been allowed in the ACC on a part-play basis.
