I just dont see it now. He is one those guys who love to coach. Now, maybe gets an offer at a very down trotting program after trying to sell three out of the last four years of good teams, but he is not going to just retire...

Why would you hope he retires? Solid group of players returning, and a very good recruiting class already signed. Two 20+ win seasons in a row. Most everyone would hit the portal so the new guy would be starting from scratch. If we does well like Barnes, then he would bolt for greener pastures. Not seeing the upside of your hope outside of change for the sake of change.

reminder that jstone/cobbox doesn't believe Clemson possesses the potential (his words) to be a championship basketball program. He is a literal cuckold that watches us trot out a team each year with the presumption that we are there to fluff someone else on their way to a championship.

I am one of the different ones where I want to see him back next year and see what that team will do. It will be an interesting team. I wanted him fired years ago, but not this year.

why do you care jstone. You don't think we can win a championship at Clemson. How sad is it to spend all that money just to sit near a coach you don't even think can ever win a title. pathetic.

have a man crush on Brownell so you're content with inconsistency and mediocrity, doesn't mean the rest of us have to be.

He's being paid millions for inconsustent and mediocre results and without any accountability. He'd be a fool to walk away from the Clemson gravy train.

he won't "retire" but its going to come down to what Neff does. Brownell will not be fired after this season but he only has 2 seasons left on his contract. The agent will lean on Neff that he simply can't coach under those conditions and needs an extension. Any extension offered needs to come with a buyout no greater than whatever his buyout is on the last day of this season. Anything more will be a gratuitous failure by Neff. If Neff holds that line, Brownell may seek to move on somewhere with a fresh deal and more guaranteed time and money. It will be a step down but he will return less than 35% of his offense next season. Barring a miracle in the portal there is no way he makes the tournament next year.

Only an idiot would give him MORE money for inconsistent results.
His contract should be 100% incentive-based.
Something like this seems more than fair.
* $100k for each ACC home win * $150k for each ACC road win (include ACC tournament wins) * $50k for each non-conference win * $25k bonus for each win over team ranked at the time of the win * $25k penalty for Quad 4 loss * $50k bonus for in-season tournament championship * $100k bonus if team is ranked in AP top 25 at the end of the season * $25k for each scholarship athlete graduated * $250k bonus for ACC regular season championship * $750k bonus for ACC tournament championship * $250k bonus for NCAA appearance, plus for each NCAA tournament game won * $25k bonus for NIT appearance, plus for each NIT game won * $1M bonus for NCAA Final Four appearance

Imagine, Virginia and Tony Bennett came to an incentive laden deal that pays him less base salary than Brad BEFORE he was an overall #1 seed or eventual National Championship. Then, he refused any increase in base pay and donated $1,000,000 back to the University. If you look up coach salary rankings Benett is higher because he earns more through incentives.

Wouldn't everyone be happy if Brownell took another job?
I don't think Brownell is fired, but any "extension" should be a paper one and if he doesn't like it he's welcome to GTFO.

expression on his face like he's passing gas, and do NOTHING to help his team win games. He is just a spectator, whatever happens happens. Why would he retire, all he has to do it show up? (In ugly clothes, no less, these days.)
