Sadly, he may have some irreversible brain damage, based on the time it took to defibrillate and get him to an advanced hospital. I think I heard that they found him unresponsive, so he could have been without blood flow to the brain for quite a long time. I'm sure they're monitoring his EEG (plus cardiac enzymes) to look for healthy brain activity in all locations.
Praying for him.
For anybody out there with a family history of heart disease who is obese, smokes, doesn't exercise or has an unhealthy diet, I strongly urge you to think about a so-called Calcium Score CT scan. Not definitive but an easy way to get a handle on the status of your coronary arteries. I saved a friend when he took me up on this scan. No symptoms but most of the above risk factors.
Most insurance will NOT pay for it but the OOP cost is around $100 and most imaging services offer this. You may need a referral from your PMD, but some places will let you walk in the door and have it done. You will have to have the center send the results to your own doctor.
You only have one heart, treat it like your life depends on it.

I agree with everything you said. It a word of caution. Just because you get a clean cardiac scan doesn’t mean you are still not susceptible to a massive heart attack. The MRI you are referring to does a good job of viewing the coronary arteries near your heat. 70% of all sudden cardiac deaths, in assumed healthy people, happen because a piece of plaque breaks off in another area of the body and creates a blockage near the heart. Tragic. Get you scan, if able to, but know it is not 100% full proof.

Life is fleeting. Such a tragic situation. Mike Leach was an incredible coach and entertainer. Dude made a fake playbook and leaked it to Texas when he was an OC at OU. What a guy.

Just a clarification. The study is a CAT scan, not an MRI. The only plaques that can break off and cause a heart attack are those in the Coronary Arteries which would likely show up on a Calcium Score.
There is no anatomical way that some sort of 'plaque' could break off in a remote area of the body and end up in a coronary artery!! Blood from the the entire body comes back to the heart and enters the right atrium, then the right ventricle, and then to the lungs! If there were anything like a plaque in the blood (impossible), it would stop in the lungs!
Calcium Scores have have alerted many people of serious plaques and saved them from a massive heart attack. I highly recommend them. The plaques that break off in the coronaries and cause attacks are almost always filled with calcium, which show up on the scan.

right atrium-->right ventricle--->pulmonary artery (only artery to carry venous blood)--->blood oxygenated in the lungs--->into left atrium--->Left Ventricle--->AORTA--->Coronary Arteries.
