Just re-watched the BC game

Jan 7, 2016, 1:05 PM

Their defense is probably the most comparable to what we will see in Alabama, albeit Alabama is better. They stopped the run very well in the first half, and we struggled offensively for a little while with overthrown balls by Watson and dropped catches by receivers. They also seemed to shut down the QB draw pretty easily, designed runs didn't go very far. But I did notice that when DW was pressured, he rolled out and made great throws. The second half they just turned the lights on. Screen passes, slants up the middle, and the occasional long ball were all working we started rolling on offense. This actually spread the defense and made us able to run the ball a little better, and DW got a few first downs off designed draws.

Alabama will be better than they were, but seeing how the offense gelled makes me confident we can get it done. We need to come out throwing and establish a solid pass game quickly. I really don't want to see a Gallman run followed by a Watson run on the first two plays to force us into 3rd down quickly. We need to test their corners early. Then we can work on the run game. Watson will be pressured, and probably sacked a few times. But his elusiveness will give him time to complete throws or run for positive yards. His deep balls need to be accurate so we can get good chunks of yards to put us in quick scoring position. We can't have drives stall on us, we need our defense to be able to rest.

Our defense should do well, but make no mistake, they will score points. Don't get angry if Henry breaks off a long run for a TD early on. Remember the Florida State game? We made adjustments, and after an offensively flat performance in the first we came out slugging. Even if we get down in this game our offense can score points to keep us in. If we can stop Henry and force Coker into bad throws, we can spook him quickly and throw him off. If we can get him running for his life every down we will be in good shape.

In conclusion, if we play like we did in the second half of the BC game for 4 quarters on Monday, we win big. If we play one half as well as we did against BC, it will be a very close game.

Final prediction: 27-23 Clemson with DW passing for over 300+ and becoming the first FBS player with 4,000 passing and 1,000 rushing.

A repeat of the OU game plan on defense with a few "tweaks" to the offense is all we need to do. I agree with coming out of the gate slinging it through the air, but we will need a balance of throwing/running to succeed. We shouldn't try to run it up the middle on their D (at first) but some speed to the outside or using some option plays would help. I say it's a close one as well but with a Clemson victory. GO TIGERS!!

Watson was nowhere near the runner he is now at that point

in the season. His confidence in his knee and his running ability and his speed grew dramatically over the season as you would expect from someone after a knee injury. The last six games of the season he began breaking the 100 yard mark and having more big runs.

Over the first 8 games: 9.75 carries for 48 yards

Over last 6 games: 18 carries for 108 yards.

We are a much more unpredictable consistent and efficient offense as a result.
