It's about respect...

Dec 28, 2012, 2:56 PM

The reason that so many people love Danny is because he brought respect to Clemson. We didn't go 12-0 every year, but you better believe everyone respected Clemson. If you didn't live during the eighties you don't know how respected we were. That is why it drives me crazy to see these young kids disrespecting Danny. Now ESPN makes fun of us for being soft along with the ACC. That is why some of us want to go to the SEC so badly. It is instant respect. I would rather go 8-4 every year and get respect than I would 10-2 and my toughness questioned. I like Dabo, he is a good man and he is loyal to Clemson, but it's time to start getting the respect we deserve.

This is the best post you ever posted. Its very true.

I was at most of the games during Danny's years.....love the

Dec 28, 2012, 3:02 PM

man. My 1981 Sports Illustrated is autographed by him and it's my most cherished Clemson possession. I treasure those years, but hate seeing Dabo drug through the mud when I can see good years ahead. Many of the people on this board are ready to run him off after a 10 win season because USuCk has our number the past 4 years. Danny would not have survived 84-86 in his day and age and we would have never seen 87-89.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Danny was also 1-2-1 during 1984-1987 against USuCk.***

I agree 100%, best ever in my mind also. I only argue that

Dec 28, 2012, 3:13 PM

Dabo is just as capable, if given time. You haven't answered my question......would Danny have survived 84 - 86 today?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

After winning a NC he deserved a little breathing room.***

Dabo didn't just get off of NCAA probation and the sanctions

Dec 28, 2012, 3:37 PM [ in reply to I agree 100%, best ever in my mind also. I only argue that ]

which hammered us during that period.

Dabo is a good man, I like him. And I think he is truly loyal to Clemson. But if we don't have a defense AND and offense by the end of the 2014 season that can compete with anyone in the nation, Dabo needs to go. You can't beat quality teams without a defense.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of course he would survive. Look Danny was the best & Dabo

Dec 28, 2012, 4:08 PM [ in reply to I agree 100%, best ever in my mind also. I only argue that ]

has the opportunity to get that level. Ol needs to get better, defense needs to get better at every position, and special teams need to be special. Saw most of Danny's ganes home and away played in the USA.....best of times; however, Dabo has the opportunity to get there as well.

Yes he would have survived! Dabo survived the 2010 disaster didnt he?

Good years ahead...

It amazes me how confident so many people are about this.

I hope you are correct, but you don't know this.

We thought we had good years ahead after Hatfield's first two...

We thought we had good years ahead after OP's first two, but..

Yes, I like a positive attitude, but's let put first things first. Beat LSU, and then start beating the Coots.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You say Danny cheated. Everyone cheated then so his wins

I never said Danny cheated.....I agree with you, however.

Dec 28, 2012, 3:17 PM

The only point I am trying to make is that Dabo's career is too early to throw in the towel. If not Dabo, then who? If we run off successful coaches after 4 years, especially after 2 ten win seasons, who in their right mind would come here?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I didnt mean to run Dabo off. Just meant it's time to get

Re: It's about respect...

Dec 28, 2012, 3:30 PM

Our respect issue isn't necessarily a byproduct of having Dabo Swinney for our HC. He is a very respectable man. He has taken heat for defending our university, speaking honestly, and talking about his beliefs, and yet he still remains a class act through and through.

Our respect issue is due mostly in part to the physicality, or lack thereof, of our team, namely our defense. The thing is, Dabo recognized and addressed our defensive issues as much as humanly possible in the offseason, and now we are seeing the birth of an entirely new defensive unit. We are young and talented, and we are still in the first year of implementing a new defense.

I believe our defense will show up, play well, and be physical against LSU, especially now that they have had an entire season, and now the entire bowl season, to improve.

Re: It's about respect...

Dec 28, 2012, 4:45 PM

Sorry, but imo, there is nothing called instant respect. You have to earn it,and the way you earn it in football is to play hard nosed smash mouth football, something that has been missing since Danny.
I will give you that about Danny Ford. His teams played defense.
Dabo is in his fourth season and has gone thru 2 defensive coordinators in Koening and Steele.
IMO,neither has what I think Brent Venables will bring to the table if people will give him a chance.
Name me one defensive player he has recruited on this years defense. That would be none because this was his first full season. He was playing with Steele's players, for what that was worth.
Lets see what he does defensively, starting with the 2013 class before you ,or anybody talks about the respect we deserve.
That's because we have not earned that respect.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree!***
