For the first time in my life, I'm sorta buying the SC hype

Someone here tell me where I'm wrong.
I watched a DVR of them dismantling Georgia the other night. They physically pounded Georgia into the ground.
I think with Spurrier, this version of SC is finally ready to make a statement. I know about their history over there. Believe me, I know it as well as many Clemson fans know it. But they seem to have crossed into a different tier.
I think they beat LSU, lose to UF, and beat everyone else on their schedule. I'm thinking 11-1. At that point, it might or might not be good enough to get them into the SECC game, depending on if UGA beats UF, which is doubtful.
But even 12-0 is not beyond the realm with this bunch. I can't believe I'm typing this. But I think this SC team is the real deal.

Let them get through BR and the Swamp without losing both, then I'll say something nice along the lines of they're legit. No way they beat LSU there, and I think UF's D is on par with LSU and both light years ahead of UGA's.

LSU has been DECIMATED by injuries, esp on their offensive line. Here's there projected starters for tomorrow.
Josh D. (SR) - LT (3 starts at LT) Turner (FR) - LG (0 starts) Porter (SR)- C (0 starts) Collins (SO) - RG (6 starts) Alexander (FR) - RT (2 starts)
Add to that an immobile QB that's not a threat to run at all, I just don't see how that line survives vs SC's front 4.

I think they should beat LSU

but LSU is great at home and SCU generally struggles on the road (as do most teams).
While they looked great against UGA, UGA also did not appear to show up for the game (which has happened too often to Richt coached teams).
Right now I think Florida is improving each week and probably the best team in the East (and probably the best 2nd half team in the country). Florida also has a favorable SEC schedule remaining.

That's why I pick UF in that game. But honestly, I'm not sure.
The thing that's changed is they have Spurrier, and he finally has the talent he needed all along. This is not your grandfather's chicken bunch.
I also agree with you that UGA didn't show up somewhat. I don't understand the deal with them under Richt. In the last 4 or 5 years, they usually crap in their pants against good teams.

the fact of the matter is that they are a good team that has struggled on the road against mediocre teams (Vandy & 1st half Kentucky) and only beaten 1 legitimate team (Jawja). The meat of their schedule is in front of them with 3 tough road games. Lets just wait and see.

However, with the way that I saw them against GA, I think they will challenge Alabama... Lets hope that they will lose one or two road games and yeah the final game too. Our defense needs to step it up big time though.

and they are not in the top 40 scoring. Their offenses are abysmal.
The only team that could conceivably beat them in the SEC is Tennessee, but they play in Columbia.
It's probably going to be up to us and Alabama to stop their march to the national title.

I will not say whether The Gamecocks will run the table, knock off LSU, UF and Clemson, but I'll say this and be absolutely true about it.
IF .. South Carolina is 11-0 when we come to Clemson this year, Your Crowd, your "rumble of Valley Men" and the atmosphere will not cause us to lose that game.
We've played in the SEC for 20 years, and we've played in the biggest and most hostile enviornments in the nation, and with a lot more on the line than the State Championship.
IF we beat LSU this year in Baton Rouge, and then beat Florida in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Clemson SC will not intimadate this team. If you win, you'll be the better team that night.

"We've played in the SEC for 20 years, and we've played in the biggest and most hostile enviornments in the nation, and with a lot more on the line than the State Championship."
A lot more on the line, huh? Like what? One appearance in the SECCG (that you got killed in) in 20 YEARS??Stop acting like you've been here before - we all know you haven't, and it shows. Step away from the Kool-Aid and take a deep breath.
Try watching your team, and you'll see what everyone else sees - a pretty good team, but not one of the all time greats Columbia fans seem to think it is.
We appreciate the laughs, but you can keep that mess to your own sites; where people actually believe it.

We've beaten a ranked Florida team in Florida with the Eastern Conference Championship. We've beaten taken out UGA in Athens, and we've beaten Tennessee in Knoxville and Arkansas in Fayetteville. All of those games were won when the Eastern Conference was up for grabs and we were still in the running. All of that was much more important than winning an OOC game in Clemson (which we've done twice since Spurrier's been coaching here).
Again, you might win the game this year but it won't be because your crowd or "the atmosphere" of the game intimadated South Carolina.

Aggressive D with a strong front line. A QB who can pass pretty well and escape pressure with his legs. A legit RB who can get tough yards.
They aren't unbeatable, but it'd be foolish for anyone to think they aren't a very good team.

As a football fan if you think USC cannot win every game they play in. That doesn't mean they will, but to think Georgia laying down Saturday had nothing to do with their opponent is ironic.

For our opponents, let me throw this out: If you're watching DVDs of past games, simply look back at the game with Vanderbilt, and then watch the progression from first game to the game we just played with UGA. This team (offense and defense) gets better each game. This is something I can tell you as a Looong time fan hasn't been the case in decades. This team has not taken a backwards step since Shaw took over the offense mid season last year. The defense has gotten BETTER once Ellis Johnson left. The offense has a true leader now (on and off the field) and the defense is more aggressive and is getting more confidence weekly. We had to remove some Cancer to heal the body. The body has recovered and is getting stronger.

Everyone gets better after the 1st game. Look at us this year. We dropped how many balls against Auburn? If you look back at the tape from the Vandy game and then ahead to the Kentucky game you will realize how bad SCar has played on the road this year.
LSU has looked really bad in their last 3 games and the offense couldn't move the ball against tackling dummies, but it is at their place. The mad hatter is difficult to beat in LA. I think it has only happened 4 times. I think SCar has a major advantage if this game was at home, but it could be a good game at night in Deaf Valley.

There's a difference at looking at it though the eyes of an opponent, and the eyes of a fan. I really (and I mean REALLY) try to stay objective about it. I also tend to look at it more analytically than through "The Garnet Glasses" I've never been a person who looked at two, three, fours years to decide how the team will play this season or game. What just happened in Columbia this past Saturday night for instance.
Look at UGA and compare it to Clemson... Going into the game with Us Saturday Night, Georgia was averaging 48.2 points a game. Clemson 42.6. UGA was allowing 22 pts a game, and Clemson 24.2. The schedules were almost Identical. If you add the games that were played Saturday night, Clemson and Georgia were amost a carbon copy of each other (ON PAPER). Clemson did play a top 5 ranked (at the time) FSU team, and UGA hadn't, but the rest of the schedules were (like Clemsons) 1,2 and 3 win teams.
Except for an inside 2:00 minutes drive against our second unit defense, they were shut down. We would have shut them out, while scroing 35 points on them. Call them over rated, or not worthy of a top 25 ranking, but it is right now, a team that is identical to Clemson's on paper. Ranking wise and Stats wise.
IF this was simply an over ranked team we played Saturday as has been suggested, then we will lose the game this week in a more hostile atmosphere against a better opponent. BUT... if we did beat a team worthy of a top 10 ranking, and we did it by ( as I feel ) a program making improvements each week, then I think the game with UGA was that huge leap to the next level, and this week should tell (IMO). It will be interesting to see if we lose or (not only win) but how we win, and by what margin. Looking forward to the game with LSU Tomorrow

even before they lost their best WR three days prior to playing SCAR.
Your secondary gave up around 330 yards passing to ECU.
Football is all about matchups. Last two years your secondary was as good as it gets. You lost three of the five starters last year. The level headed SCAR fans I know still worry about their pass defense.

Yeah the "Garnet Glasses" are showing a little in your break down. A lot of what you just pointed at as reasons to expect you to win are a direct result of the reasons I think LSU might have the advantage.
UGA in their past 11 games against ranked teams is 1-10. They also were playing on the road in a hostile environment. Being the away team combined with a few early mistakes by UGA are what led to the result we saw last week. South Carolina played very well but are in now way 35 points better than UGA. UGA had multiple drives stalled after going down 21-0 that resulted in no points simply because they were forced to play catchup. If they run their normal offense they would have scored more than they did.
I understand that the past doesn't directly affect the future but to simply disregard past habits of teams is irresponsible. Les Miles hasn't played well at home based off of dumb luck. SCar will not play as well this week as they did against UGA simply because they are on the road. Just like Clemson will have a difficult game with Wake because it is on the road on a Thursday. If Clemson was going to Columbia this year I would give you the advantage but the game is no where close to your game against UGA simply because you are coming to the Valley.

So you are saying they improved in the game against Kentucky? Very funny. They won which is what they should have done. I still am not impressed with what they have done this year. They beat Georgia, but it looks like Georgia is going to turn out to be a phony as well.

Georgia could very well turn out to be a phony, but they have a very good shot at a 10 win season since the only other ranked team on their schedule is Florida. Heck, other than UF, the only team left on Georgia's schedule that currently has a winning record is Georgia Southern.
It's a very similar situation to Clemson's schedule in that each team might only play 2 ranked opponents in the regular season. If Clemson loses to South Carolina and Georgia loses to Florida, it will be tough to tell how good Clemson and Georgia really are.

If SCAR can have success on the football field, that means anyone can do it.
All it takes is a little hard work, good coaching from the assistants, maybe a few free hotel rooms, lax disciplinary policies, editorial control over the media, low academic standards, a willingness to oversign & freely pull scholarships, and a huge windfall of cash from better programs in the conference.

thinking they could run on anyone and once the run was stopped they were screwed. I do not think that USuCk or Jawja are head and shoulders above everyone else. Neither has really played anyone...other than against each other. That is how the SEC inundates the top 10. Start there preseason, play cupcakes, lose to another SEC team in the top ten, drop a spot, recycle.
Let's see how the dirtpeckers do the next couple of weeks. Can they win out, sure; will they, doubtful.

Scar started out this well they collapsed.
Les Miles said he's going to stop Shaw from running and make him have to throw more than 10 passes. They can play man on scar's wr and free up safety's to help in run support. The question for LSU is the shuffling across the o line. They are at home and if they can run the ball they will win, scar won't put up more than 14 if they(scar) gets some special teams help.
I'm going to say 17-13 LSU. A bad time to catch the tigers.
I still think scar can win the east and the sec. However they can also lose at Clemson and Clemson win out.
What could happen: scar goes 11-1(or 10-2) wins sec and loses to a Clemson team that goes 11-1 and finishes second in acc to FSU. Oregon and WVU play for BCS title after last year's bore fest. Clemson to Sugar bowl and Scar to BCS bowl.

who back in the summer said South Carolina was staring 5-7 or 6-6 right in the face.
I realize 6-6 could still happen. But it is unlikely.
I don't know when people are going to learn to stop making outlandish, and ridiculous predictions like that.

That was until he thought his team was worth talking about. All that was was a way out in case they lost a few.

Boling has some major issues. I hope he doesn't own any firearms, or I'm seriously worried about folks in the Rock Hill area.

So what does 1984 have to do with 2012 ? If you agree with the belife then if your kid stole a piece of candy from a store at the age of 3, he's probably a career shop lifter and in and out of prison as a 35 year old adult. We might wind up going 0-6 the rest of the year or 6-0, but it won't have anything to do with what Joe Morrison did as the coach of an Independent SC team vs what Steve Spurrier is doing with an SEC team in 2012

I understand that you think history is a factor in what happens today, but the reality of it is IT DOESN'T. What happened with a team 5 years ago, where no player on today's team is even on the roster, and playing a totally different scheme on offense and defense has 0 effect on what a team does NOW.

Much better than them but 3 pts is also far fetched. Lsu is backed into a corner and they will manup and run with enough success to make this a game of mistakes

In their 2 road games they've struggled vs inferior teams ..

IF they manage a win at night in Baton Rouge, then I'll begin to really buy into the hype.
I'm perfectly willing to give credit where it's due.

show me a game where they have looked good on the road? The road is a whole different animal and you don't get that kind of road effort you saw vs UGA. LSU maybe the toughest in all sports to play, they're 75-1 under Miles for a reason. The Swamp is right up there also. Also LSU is being disrespected all week with a lot saying SC will win this game, I think you see the best game of LSU so far this year.

South Carolina beats LSU by 2 touchdowns in a game that is not even close regardless of all the hype about what LSU has done in the past at home. The same way last weekends game was said to be a slug fest with Ga. having the better team. You have to look at what SC did at Kentucky in a different light. They played a crappy half to a team they had a hard time getting up for,but in the second half they shut them completely down,0 points. That is the kind of team they have this year.

On a Clemson board. If so many of you have so much faith in that cellar dweller of a program go pull for them. They've got plenty of room on the bandwagon.

You have to admit, if they were to win out until they meet us, that would be pretty sweet hosting a top 3 team (possibly #1???) the last game of the season. How loud would (the real) Death Valley be?
