How not to be murdered by a cop

Stay away from them Don't be taller or bigger than them when talking to them. Don't beg for your life, this only triggers their predatory instincts to finish you off Make them feel special, call them sir and compliment their uniform. Casually Mention(lie) that your dad was a cop for 40 years Don't be poor, if you are poor, casually mention(lie) that you have a lawyer in the family. Always apologize for bleeding on their uniform when getting beaten at a traffic stop, it shows you care. If you suspect that the law enforcement officer is having a rough day, offer to let them vent their anger on your rib cage. Have a safe word Become one

Comply with orders. If they overreact or bring false charges sue the crap out of the city. Very simple.

Complying with orders, as in, reaching for your ID when the cop says "hey, show me your ID"?
It's so simple!

mud, publishing their mugshot, and detailing the charges faced, when was the last time you saw a news station revisit someone's story detailing how the charges were dropped? Depending on the situation, your reputation is ruined.
Then you've got to go about finding a lawyer actually willing to sue, pay for them, spend months if not years fighting the battle, blah blah blah.

those are private companies doing that. They scan the county mug shots, publish them, then extort you into taking them off the net. it has been legal since 2001.

I know several folks who have dealt with this issue. They have no record, or their record has been expunged. But whatever is stored in the scraped database/cache of some random leech website is seen as a red flag.
The only thing worse than the websites are the companies and agencies that get suckered into using them...rather than using the actual source.
I.e. SLED background check is the authoritarian source for this kind of info in South Carolina, but I know people who have been questioned about charges that were dismissed 5 years prior, or about charges that are attributed to someone else with the same name. You're having to argue against the ignorance of the company/agency that's using some cheesy for-profit website.
Such is the webs, though.

it is awful in florida. The same attorneies that get them off the web are in cahoots with the people publishing them. It is flat out extortion and costs up to 500 per incident, per company publishing them. Ex girlfriend got a DUI and had to pay 2 different companies off to have them removed.

I had a simple possession charge back in '08 that STILL shows up once in a while. But I'm kind of at the point where I seriously cringe at the thought of working for a company who would question me about that.

It's almost as if most of us are middle to upper-middle class white guys who have limited encounters with cops due to the neighborhoods we live in. Or something like that.

I do have a a "white privilege" bumper sticker on the back of my luxury car (not a Lexus or Escalade), though.

BTW, when properly rehearsed and perfectly executed, the "my dad was a cop for 40 years" line will get you out of a lot of ####. Just be prepared to back it up with a story of his service in a city far far away from where you get pulled over. I use Camden, it instantly gives them a law enforcement a woody, and I can talk about Camden for hours.
