South Carolina Highway 225 (Yay, back in SC) is a 5.9 mile state highway that runs from U.S. Route 25 to SC 72 Business as a bypass around the southwest side of Greenwood.

Moving up a couple miles from Twelve Mile Rec Area where Hwy 133 meets Madden Bridge Road is Daniel High School. It originally opened in 1955 to serve students from Clemson, Central, and Six Mile. The present campus opened in 2012. I graduated in 1980, the 25th anniversary of the old school. Famous former students include Pete Maravich (1960-63, finished HS in NC), Lindsey Graham (class of 1973) and Nuk Hopkins (class of 2010). Lately, DHS has been the target of nepotism claims. <img border=">

225 - Tye Hill Rushed for 225 Yards - Before Switching to DB

Yesterday I posted in Hill Watch about Duane Coleman beginning his Clemson career as a RB before finishing his career as a DB. Of course, he wasn’t the only one.

Coleman’s teammate, Tye Hill (2002-2005), also started his Clemson playing career RB before switching to DB. Hill gained 225 yards on 42 carries (5.4 average).

From ClemsonTigers.com:

After red-shirting in 2001, Hill was ready to help the Tiger offense, but had to stay patient behind senior Bernard Rambert. The 2002 season’s sixth game was a road trip to Charlottesville to play Virginia, and Hill made one of his first memories as a Tiger. With Clemson trailing the Cavaliers 6-3 and time ticking down before halftime, Hill took a Willie Simmons handoff and scampered 32 yards for his first career touchdown.

Hill’s rushing attempts were mostly limited for the rest of the 2002 season, with the exception of the North Carolina game. Carrying 14 times, Hill gained 105 yards and scored a touchdown. Combined with Rambert’s 106-yard day, it is the only time Clemson has had two 100-yard rushing performances in the same game since 1996.

In the winter of 2003, Hill’s career as a sprinter on the Tiger track team began to flourish. During the winter and spring of 2004, Hill won the ACC Championship in the 60m indoors, and the 100m outdoors. He joined former Tiger and Olympic Gold Medalist Shawn Crawford as one of seven Clemson sprinters in history to win both league titles in the same year. Hill was also an All-American in track in 2003 as a member of Clemson’s NCAA runner-up 4x100m relay team. He enjoyed running track, but realized something had to change if he was going to continue to juggle football and track.

“I enjoyed being a sprinter, but I knew that if I was going to be a running back, I would have add some weight,” explained Hill. “That probably would have ended my sprinting days, so I looked at some alternatives. Football was what I wanted to do the most, and cornerback seemed like a good choice for me. I talked about it with my parents and the coaches, and I used Terence Newman as an example. He was a track guy and a cornerback (from Kansas State) that ended up being a high draft pick. My goal when I came to Clemson was to go to the NFL, and I finally realized that my best shot at reaching that would be as a cornerback.”

For the defensive coordinator at the time, John Lovett, the decision by Hill to change positions was a welcome one. Lovett had recruited Hill two years earlier while he was still at Auburn. The position he wanted to have Hill play…cornerback, of course.

“To be honest, Coach Lovett was mad at me at first,” chuckled Hill. “He had recruited me earlier to play that position, but it had taken me a while to realize he was right.”

Many football analysts list cornerback as the toughest of any position on the field to play. For someone always looking for new challenges, the idea of playing one of those spots opposite freshman All-American Justin Miller was a great one to Hill.

225 - Gabe Cervenka Bench Pressed a Mere 225 Pounds for a Mere 50 Reps

I definitely would not recommend getting into a bench press contest with Cervenka! The 50 reps in the 225 pound bench press was not part of some official event – such as an NFL combine – he was just simply having fun!

From Tigernet (August 2018):

Clemson Football's Twitter account posted a short clip of Gabe Cervenka benching 225 pounds fifty times. Around his fortieth lift, he paused for a moment and (surprising to me) winked at the camera. Cervenka was acting like he was benching Nerf weight not the 225 pounds during the entire video.

(As of 2018): Since 1998, only eighteen players at the NFL combine have had more than 40 reps at 225 pounds.

No problem, right (video):

Interesting note regarding the 225 pound bench press for NFL combines:

The all-time NFL Combine bench press record holder is defensive tackle Justin Ernest from Eastern Kentucky University. He put up an incredible 51 reps at 225 pounds in 1999. However, the official record belongs to Stephen Paea with 49 reps. This is due to the fact that Ernest went undrafted and never played a game in the NFL.

It was, as any marching weary foot soldier of the realm could tell you, known as the Year of the Consulship of Fuscus and Domitius. It was notable as being the first year that Christian paintings appeared in Rome, adorning the catacombs.

The catacombs are subterranean passageways that were used as place of burial for a number of centuries. The burials of Jewish, pagan and early Christian Roman citizens in the catacombs began in the second century and ended in the fifth century.

The reason for the catacombs was that the Christians did not agree with the pagan custom of burning the bodies of their dead, for which reason to solve problems created from a lack of space and the high price of land they decided to create these vast underground cemeteries.

Roman law at the time prohibited the burial of the deceased in the interior of the city, for which reason all of the catacombs were located outside of the walls. These separated and hidden places below ground constituted the perfect refuge in which the Christians could bury their own, freely using Christian symbols.

The catacombs possess a huge number of subterranean passageways that form real labyrinths that are several kilometres long, along which rows of rectangular niches were dug out.

The corpses were wrapped in a sheet and placed in the niches, which were then covered with gravestones made of marble or, more commonly, baked clay. Subsequently, the name of the deceased was carved on the cover accompanied by a Christian symbol.
