Great game and great win today, but when you step back

and get a little perspective, this team is, by definition, mediocre. Today would have been a big win for any team; a blowout over a conference opponent. I look forward to the day when wins like this are the norm, and are preceded and followed by wins against the better, ranked conference teams. I know we can get there - fingers crossed.

Mediocre, I'd say that's a little harsh.

This team lost a rising star in the NBA in McDaniels and were back at Step 1 as an offense team as a whole.
KJ led us in every offensive statistic essentially so it's not hard to believe we would have to reestablish an offensive identity.
I love Hall and have enjoyed his play but I'm ready to see us establish a real PG threat in the paint, Stitt was deadly before Brownell but he flourished in his last year with him too.
They were a couple bone headed plays away from being a Top 10 team with a future NBA player not resting once, this team is above average with flashes of more.

not at or near the top, but smack dab in the middle. That's mediocre by definition. We have only one win over a ranked team, #24 (currently) Arkansas early in the season. We have six losses to unranked teams. It will take a miracle for us to make the NCAA tourney. Can we finish strong? Do we show flashes of playing well? Have we improved dramatically as the season has progressed? Yes to all. To me, "good" teams finish near the top of their league and go to the NCAA.
This is only a "good" team in light of our horrendous start this year, or based on Clemson's basketball history. And, we may be a good mediocre team, but right now, based on our record, we are still mediocre. I hate the fact that as Clemson basketball fans, our expectations are so low. I understand why, as it is a reflection of our basketball history, but I hope to see that change soon.

three road wins in the ACC

There are many years on record that Clemson did not win one ACC road game. I wish fans would support basketball like they do football. Never can shut up about football. Give Brownell some decent facilities and watch what happens.

standards. It's just not great by objective standards, and not that big of a deal if we were a really good team.

We have road wins against good teams and had improved nearly every week. I'd say we are playing very well . Very proud of what we're are accomplishing.
Great win Tigers!

Beautiful day in Clemson.

Mediocre teams are not 6th in the ACC, we are learning how to FINISH games ... once we do that, we cross the threshold to the ELITE.

How can anybody call this team anything but mediocre?
Our best win is over #17 Arkansas and we've had some terrible losses that don't even have to be mentioned.
Great win today but let's face the facts, it was a terrible team we beat. Nothing to get excited about.
At best I think we win 3 of our last 5 and wind up 10-8 in the league which isn't too shabby but still not good enough to get us to the dance which should be the goal every year and so far we are 1-4 under Brownell getting there.

Just looking at the big picture bro.
I watched and enjoyed every second of the game today but in the grand scheme of things it didn't mean much.

Largest deficit of season for VT. They haven't won much but they have been highly competitive. Not so today. Bring on Duke!

Mediocre? Normally I wholeheartedly agree with your posts but that's a bit harsh ST. This team is elite defensively and growing on the other end. We are mid pack in a very tough conference. We have also been on the verge of breaking into the upper 3rd of the conference all season. And that's with a team that was picked anywhere from 12th to 15th in preseason. I heard long time die hard fans make comments such as "this team might not win an ACC game" back in December. To say we are mediocre is a slap in the coaches and players faces and the hard work that they have put in to "just be average".
You better than that ST

Being better than expected doesn't make you elite, especially when you were expected to be terrible.
FYI there are a lot of mediocre teams that will make the NCAA tournament, we won't be one of them.

making my point. We are on the verge of breaking out of mediocrity. We are much better than most people expected, including me, but overall the season has been mediocre. I think our players have worked their tails off; I think Brownell has done a tremendous job; I have enjoyed watching all of that. Still we are in the middle of the pack in our conference, so by definition we are mediocre, at least in conference; that is inarguable. How have we done out of conference? We have lost to 4 unranked teams, and beaten only one ranked team, (#24). No way under the sun that can be stretched into anything close to "elite", as another poster suggested; that is a complete joke.
I appreciate the kind words, and I do not mean to be harsh, just trying to be real. I have been following Clemson basketball since I was a kid and could barely say "Zatazelo", and I understand where everybody is coming from, and where that is is a place of very low expectations combined with orange-colored glasses. I like to see our guys fight hard and I like what Brownell has done with them, and at times we play like a really good team, like today; but I think what has happened this year is that we started out so horrible, that many of us now are all giddy over reaching mid-pack. That's admirable, but not where we want to be.
Any way you slice it, It's getting late in the season and we are middle of the road (a synonym for "mediocre) in conference and have yet to receive a single vote for the top 25. It's one thing to be proud of our effort and the progress we've made (I am), but another to think that we are something we are not. We finish mid-pack in football or even baseball, and by-Gawd it's time to fire somebody; mid pack in basketball and it's chest thumping time. Yes, I know, we've never been great in basketball; that's my point. Because of that, our expectations are too low, and it doesn't have to be that way.
