Only if Commissioner waves his past academic trouble

From ESecPN...The SEC's graduate transfer rule -- 14.1.15.1 -- states the student-athlete must meet seven criteria. Golson would not meet the fourth criteria: 14.1.15.1d -- "The student-athlete has not been subject to official university or athletics department disciplinary action at any time during enrollment at any previous collegiate institution [excluding limited discipline applied by a sports team]."

Well it says that I the article and I don't see him doing that. Might as well not ha e the rule if it can just be waived for anyone.

for him to go play somewhere that needs a QB.
I anticipate that waiver to be a formality if he really wants to play at USuCk or UGAy.

I suspect the rule for Golson will be waived. It was largely designed to protect the SEC's image, owing mostly to the fact that they don't want convicted - or arraigned - felons transferring into the conference.
Golson doesn't have that problem. He had academic problems at Notre Dame - an institution that prides itself, and walks the walk, not just talks the talk - on putting academics ahead of athletics. He didn't have the grades, and the very next year after he played for a national title, the Irish suspended their star QB and put him on academic probation. (Contrast that to the treatment Winston got at FSU and it looks more than a little glaring.) Golson got his act together and got his grades up...and graduated. This is not a felon, and is not somebody who will embarass the conference or tarnish its image. The SEC could well grant the waiver...and to be honest, they probably should. Golson is hardly a problem child.
So that said...where does Golson wind up? Obviously the two schools close to home are UGA and South Carolina. UGA's depth chart is obviously much deeper, though they've got far more of a pro-style offense that takes snaps from under center. That'd be attractive, especially with UGA's running game. Plug the right QB in and the Dawgs could go far. At South Carolina he'd have to work with Steve Spurrier - who has never had a black starting QB before - and learn an entirely new, college-oriented offense that has never translated particularly well to the NFL. But at South Carolina he'd be an almost guaranteed starter...and I think that's ultimately the deciding factor.
I said a couple months back I figured it was 50/50 Golson wound up at South Carolina, and I still think that. I suppose Texas or LSU are possibilities as well. Texas has another pro-style offense and the same staff that produced Teddy Bridgewater so I could definitely see that, though the Longhorns are not as attractive an option right now as they usually would be, rebuilding as they are. I could even see FSU - another pro-style offense - coming in for him, though in an obvious rebuilding year of their own, would Jimbo be overly interested in a 1-and-done guy who doesn't really know the playbook yet? Dunno. Jimbo is a noted QB guru, maybe he would.
My own bet is South Carolina is the odds-on favorite. They have an obvious need and Golson, to me, did not seem overly interested in competing with Zaire at Notre Dame, and there's too much competition, IMHO, at both UGA and FSU to suit him. Without a guaranteed starter's gig - which he wouldn't likely get, at either place, just the same opportunity to "compete" he already had at Notre Dame - I think UGA and FSU eliminate themselves.
So sorry, guys...I think he goes for the guaranteed starter's job at South Carolina...and I do think they will get their waiver from the SEC. And to be honest, they should. Again, Golson is a Notre Dame graduate who had a bumpy spell academically. He's not a felon, not an image risk or a PR nightmare waiting to happen, and he's an in-state guy on top of that.
Just my .02. Be interesting to see how it plays out. But I still say guaranteed PT is going to be the deciding factor in where Golson winds up. He wants the NFL, and has one last year to pad his resume. He won't get that on somebody's bench.

Except Golson wasn't suspended because of grades. He was suspended because he was caught cheating on a test.

There will be a big spotlight on Slive. Also, UGA or SCar will protest if they are not selected. Easiest thing to do is implement the rule that was created in 2014.

God, I hope he doesn't go to USCjr......he might be just the spark they need with Pharoah Cooper to be competitive. I'd like to see him go to Georgia.
