Seeing pretty much a done deal that John Rahm is heading to LIV tour for somewhere north of 500 plus million. That's insane. PGA gonna be big mad.

Hard to pass up stupid money like that. I would definitely miss playing the traditional tracks the PGA plays every year.

I hate this but the PGA kind of brought it on themselves. By agreeing to try and work out some kind of partnership with LIV, they have created a "best of both worlds" scenario. He can take his $500M now and still play the majors and then probably rejoin a combined version of the tours at some point in the future.
Kind of hard to blame a guy for taking an opportunity to set up future generations of his family for life. I will never be faced with a decision like that and I wouldn't want to venture how I would respond because no one knows for sure until they really have that option to consider.

As it now stands, he will get into the majors only based on past finishes, once

he tumbles down the OWGR. They do not give ranking points to LIV event participants. He will always get into the Masters as a past Champion there, and into the US Open through 2031, due to his US Open win in 2021. That win also gets him into the Open Championship for five years from that date, which will run out after the 2026 Open Championship. His Masters Championship will also get him into the PGA Championship through the year 2027.
Who knows how all this will change going forward. But, in Rahms particular case, I can't blame him for taking the kind of money they threw at him, reputed to be ~$566,000,000. Even in his wildest dreams, he would never earn that much stash on the PGA Tour.
The PGA Tour finds themselves vs the Saudis in much the same situation Clemson will find itself in NIL. The Saudis have bottomless pockets, compared to the PGA. So, if there is a number that can actually buy a player, they have the money to accomplish that. Rumors early on said they threw $800,000,000 at Tiger Woods to try and get him to bolt, and he turned them down.
Clemson will increasingly find ourselves in a similar situation. We can, and will be outbid for kids for whom money is the deciding factor. And, as the money goes up, there will be more and more for whom that will tip the scales. And, in those cases where collectives of certain schools are willing and able to lob ridiculous amounts of money at a kid they covet, it gets to a point where you can't blame the kids for taking that money, either. You attend college to hopefully get a degree that will allow you to maximize your earning power throughout your working life. If an NIL deal is big enough to jump start that in a huge way, then you almost have to go for it.

Yea.....at some point, it appears the PGA will have to make a deal with the Saudis or go bankrupt. Sponsors for these signature events are already complaining and threatening to drop out.

So Rham is going to eventually end up with as much cash as Tiger Woods with 1/10th the talent. Money, Money, Money ...

Brandel Chamblee saying Rahm sold his career out. Has anyone asked Brandel what he would do if someone flopped $600 mil on his kitchen table? Easy to pontificate from behind your broadcast desk when your career is over.
