GITT: Deaded musicians you saw in concert
Jul 19, 2017, 3:32 PM
|
|
I watched a Stevie Ray Vaughan doc on TV (which was great, but oddly ended in 1983?) and started thinking about the people I had seen play live who are gone. He was probably the first "big" musician that I remember dying after I saw him play. I have a pretty decent list, and I know I don't even know about a bunch, probably. Plus I'm sure I have forgotten a few. What about you?
Stevie Ray Vaughan Prince Johnny Cash Merle Waylon George Jones Bill Monroe Gregg Allman James Brown Matt "Guitar" Murphy BB King Lemmy Kilmeister (Motorhead) Ronnie James Dio Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) Steve Clark (Def Leppard) The Ramones (ALL of them are deaded except Marky I think) Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) Dave Prevette/Rod Price (Foghat) Jackson Spires (Blackfoot) Danny Joe Brown (Molly Hatchet) Eddie Shaver (Shaver) Country D*ck Montana (Beat Farmers) Buren Fowler (drivin'n'cryin) couple guys from Boston I can't remember their names (drummer, singer)
never saw Michael Jackson, never saw Bruce Hampton, never saw Kurt Cobain, never saw Chris Cornell, never saw Beastie Boys, or any of the murdered hip hop folks. There's a bunch out there, and the list grows every year.

That's a rediculous list.
####, son.
Now I know why your name is Scooter. After all of those concerts, you probably can't afford a car.

Chicago/NYC/LA type music town, but did the festival thing for so many years where it was easy to squeeze in a lot of acts over a long weekend. My list based on Blues festivals attending alone would be somewhat disheartening.

Two that are jumping out to me are:
Scott Weiland
Glenn Frey
Whoever is deaded from the big Farm Aid concert in Columbia, cause there was alot of old musicians there that somehow didn't kill Hootie for us.

great list.
I'd love to do a list about the ones I DIDN'T see and wish to God I had. Top of the list would be Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) and Freddie Mercury. And a bunch of old blues guys like Muddy Waters, etc.
