For the first time, I am starting to feel like the Big12

move has a better than not chance of happening. I feel pretty sure about a few things:
1. Clemson and FSU are in this together and have been from the beginning.
2. If they say yes to the Big12, then you can beleive that they have been assured by the SEC and an invitation from the SEC was not a possibility.
3. They have weighed out the money and future playoff situation and felt as if the difference was to big to stay in the ACC.
In my opinion, the only way the ACC can avoid this happening is to get Notre Dame to join, adjust the contract by virtue of Notre Dame joining and have that contract come in at the level of the Big Twelve. This would also indicate that the ACC would have fair access to the playoff.
I would prefer the ACC do what it takes to keep Clemson and FSU. If, however, Clemson decides on Big12, I will be at peace because I will know that Clemson felt there was no SEC invite coming and to stay in the ACC would have meant being left behind.

first, ND isn't going to come in on even footing financially as other schools, they will demand financial considerations/concessions which would just further alienate those schools who are upset about the economic situation in the ACC
second, only adding ND won't really help with re-negotiating a truly substantially different contract to make up the $$$ differences between the ACC and the other major conferences vying for what for all intents and purposes is the pool of $$$ to be made from football
third, related to the above, the other remaining schools possible to come in with ND offer nothing to enhance the negotiations either - and no PSU is NOT going to leave the comfy confines of their current conference that already is at the table as one of the real players in the pool of $$$ to be made from football to come to a pit of a conference in the hopes of making less $$$ for the forseeable future due to the above items

But all we know right now is what it looks like on the surface. Behind the scenes FSU/CU could be preparing to jump to the BIG 12. Behind those same scenes they could already know that ND and another team are on their way to the ACC,making it the FIRST 16 superconference,therefore leaving the BIG 12 in the dust having to get subpar teams just to get back to 12. if this were to happen , all the so called deals done now would be voided and the ACC would be the one leading the way.
I know it sounds far fetched, but all the conference envy folks need to realize that the ACC's moves last year caught the whole establishment by surprise.

Geographically, the ACC has 2 of the largest media markets (NY/DC) at the moment. (the only other one that comes close is L.A.) I think the best thing the ACC could do is further secure the East Coast by adding UCONN/Georgetown. Then focus on building an elite football conference. (as well as basketball)

The football program is Patriot League and the stadium isn't one that can be converted to FBS.

I agree that Georgetown's football program would have to grow a lot, but it seems to me that they are the best fit.
Geography, academics, size, and their basketball program
are all a great fit IMO. I don't know much about Georgetown University, (other than John Thompson coached there and I've been there once) but it seems like it would be a natural rival with the Virginia schools & Maryland.
I would think those rivalries and geography/affiliation with an expanded ACC would improve their football program. (perhaps very quickly)

To me, an expanded ACC with UCONN & Georgetown added could be the best of all worlds.
The ACC would have the:
1. East Coast locked up
2. best collection of academic institutions
3. elite basketball conference
4. largest media market
5. pieces in place to have a much improved football
conference

They aren't the reason the SEC and Big 12 are making as much money as they are. If Georgetown ever became an ACC football team then the ACC's football reputation is done.

Although I agree that the SEC & Big 12 are making more money than some other conferences from their football programs, I disagree that academics & basketball don't matter. (or make money)
There are a large number of people that go to college to get an education. (not just get drunk and go to football games) I think if you add UCONN & Georgetown to the ACC, the money that Clemson would bring in annually (from academics & athletics) could perhaps equal or surpass that of joining the SEC.

Wow, Is all I can say. The writing is on the wall. Football is the money maker that pays for all the sports. All I can say is just wow. I am guessing some ppl don't know its all about the money.
