If healthy I think collins is top 2. He has flashed. Has all the tools he needs.

I definitely understand. Just my opinion. That catch he made against wake forest his freshman year was incredible. 22 catches last season is underwhelming. He was on pace to have a great game against usc last season until he got hurt on that long catch and run.

Collins, Williams, Turner, Randall, Johnson/Spector/Stellato

When Collins left the SCAR game injured, you could really tell a difference.
Williams was the leader last season by default. He will be great again with Collins on the field.
Randall May surprise us all by coming in and living up to his hype from his first spring/summer on the team.
Turner has by far the highest ceiling given expectations when he was signed.
Johnson certainly looks the part.
Spector has been only serviceable and Stellato can’t get healthy.
One of the lesser heralded new guys could make a splash like Turner did last season. Who knows?

Still remember that TD catch where it appeared to catch him

..by surprise that the ball was in his hands.
Nothing against the kid, but he is definitely one of the least talented WRs on the team.

He’s sort of single handedly killed the #13 WR tradition.

He is turning out to be an absolute recruiting bust! We had very few of those when JS ran recruiting and coached up the receivers.

That's some revisionist history. Stellato being a "bust" is entirely based on injuries thus far. Hard to coach a guy who can't stay healthy. Also JS recruited plenty of guys who massively underperformed compared to their recruiting pedigree:
1. Frank Ladson 2. EJ Williams 3. Demarre Kitt 4. Trevion Thompson 5. Diondre Overton 6. Germone Hopper
And that doesn't even get into guys like Ajou Ajou, Shadell Bell, and Kyrin Priester who were all pointless takes. You can also add Dacari Collins to the list of guys JS recruited that didn't pan out. Scott had plenty of misses and his recruiting philosophy and misses on the recruiting trail towards the end of his tenure is what left our WR corp completely depleted.
Clemson's problem with WR play is the same problem we've had with overall offensive play - the approach has been stagnant. If you look at the type of WRs who have been dominating the sport at the college and NFL level lately it's predominantly the type of guy who wins with acceleration and smooth route running and yet we kept going after a bunch of boundary guys that may be able to turn 50/50 balls into 60/40 balls but can't actually get open. That's a recruiting strategy that can be directly traced to Jeff Scott.

Not here to coach them up. Not saying all of them would have been phenomenal receivers, but many more would have if he were here to see them through. The other piece of the problem was DJ at QB not being able to deliver the ball on time and in the right place. Even Justyn Ross was frustrated with that. The timing of both of those things screwed up WRU.

8 of the 10 guys I mentioned received at least one year from Scott. 7/10 spent their entire careers with Scott. No, the issue was not that JS was not "coaching them up". They were just busts. And some of the guys Scott recruited took major steps forward under Grisham (Rodgers and Powell).
This board has a very strange love affair with Jeff Scott just because he got out before the foundational offensive cracks he helped create burst open in 2021 and 2022. I don't know why everyone here seems to want him to take over the offense when Riley moves on. He's already shown he is not the innovative offensive mind it takes to keep from going schematically stale.

… some great WRs and some not-so-great ones.
On trait I noticed we seem to be missing lately is WRs who really know how to block.
I think that’s something that can be coached and it seemed JS did a fine job at it.

The vast majority of blocking for college WRs is effort. Technique doesn't matter nearly as much because you're predominantly going against guys that are not good at getting off blocks. The last time we had a truly elite blocking WR was Charone Peake, which to JS's credit was one of his guys through and through, but a lot of the lackadaisical blockers from the last several seasons were JS's recruits. You can blame Grish for not getting the effort out of them, but part of that is an intangible quality you can't teach.

I don’t count injured players as busts. Busts to me are players that don’t have injury issues that don’t live up to expectations.

The things that prevent getting injuries in the first place. I realize not all injuries are preventable, but you can maximize durability through doing the right prep work.
When I say bust, I don’t mean he is a bust because he didn’t have the talent to be good. He just never showed it on the field of play as expected for whatever reason.

Turner isn’t even going to start, most likely, this season. I think a healthy Randall ends up being your #1. He was poised to break out before his injury last season and it looks like he is almost back to 100%. I think Randall, Williams, and Collins are your guys in that order. Then brinningstool and Turner after. Those 5 will most likely make up about 80% of your receiving production with most of the the rest coming from RBs and your other receivers

Hanafin played very low level HS football so he will take a while to adjust to Power 5 level football.

at WR. He played against low level competition in HS and looked more technically sound playing Safety than WR imo. I do have high expectations for Tyler Brown given his hands, speed, and elusiveness. Brown has a really high ceiling, and could see gadget plays this season.
