DJ isn’t the problem

Nov 8, 2022, 12:11 PM

A ton of blame for our offensive woes has been placed on DJ. While some of it is due I’d argue that DJ is working with the worst receiving corps we’ve had in recent memory.

Who’s catching 50/50 (that were once 80/20) balls for us? No Mike Williams. Not even a Deon Cain. Allen and Briningstool? Ngata has been a colossal bust. Beaux Collins can’t catch the ones that hit him in the hands. EJ… I mean is he still on the team? Dacari is a bust.

Antonio Williams is our only guy and he’s too small to go up and dominate the jump ball. Adam Randall gives us some hope but I think he hasn’t adjusted to the speed of the game.

I mean heck, we’d be better off putting Dabo Swinney Jr Jr out there.

DJ has made a ton of mistakes but you can’t place all the blame on him. Need some guys to step up or the guys need better coaching.

OR perhaps the receivers don’t have a lot of confidence in DJ! If you are going to be the leader of the team, as the QB should be, you need to get in control of the team. I watched closely and I DO NOT see that confidence displayed n the game. Who is at fault?

As i said earlier, if they don't get Randall involved, he will go to a school that will. Great athlete with wild upside. DJ stares only one receiver down and does not look elsewhere.

Well Ngata who has taken a lot of flack (from myself included) was in the friggin End Zone when DJ threw to the DB for the pick 6. NGata was so wide open he could have taken a nap and still made the catch.

So why was DJ throwing 10 yards away from the WR to the DB that had just had his ankles rolled.

Oh that's "a play DJ would like to have back" but they keep happening and they happen more when the need is greater.

That is mental and not an easy fix.

False dichotomy . . .

Indeed, DJ's not "the" problem in some simplistic monolithic sense. But let's not simply shift the blame **entirely** elsewhere, either. When DJ stands in the pocket too long, it isn't always b/c of a lack of WR separation or lack of protection. We've all noticed him **repeatedly** missing guys downfield that were so wide open they were probably feeling lonely. We've all seen him not be decisive enough and cut but and run quick enough, and take unnecessary losses or even turn it over. We've all seen him have chance after chance to AT LEAST throw the ball away to at least avoid a loss, but then hold onto it anyway only to turn a possible 3rd and 3 into a 3rd and 9 or 11. To say "DJ isn't the problem" has a kernal of truth to it, but not enough to pass muster.
