Imo I don’t think it was his skill set they were trying to get ready I think it was more of getting him ready physically

There has been no short coming with CK2 physically.
We do not know where he had been with respect to the nuances of learning the WR routes or of the blocking schemes (both from the OL and RBs) so that he could best move in the pocket so that he could see the WR patterns develop; whether the DBs were in zone or man-to-man coverage; and of the nuances of the zone coverage.
We do not know about CK2’s development as far as recognizing the hot routrs (in case of a blitz).
We do know that CK2’s decision-making skills had not been adequately developed as of the ND game; that is why CK2’s playing time since ND game had been relegated to when after our win had been assured.

I agree. Everybody is expecting the UNC game to be the norm. Still, it is a little disingenuous to say that he is more equipped to start than DW and TL when he wasn't prepared to improve on an 8 of 29 performance a month ago.

Lmfao the UNC game has been the norm his entire career but for some reason everyone wants to try to overlook Cade like he wasn’t a highly touted recruit. The statement isn’t disingenuous at all, neither Trevor nor Deshaun had an entire month to prepare for their first start. Dabo is not saying he is better then Trevor not Deshaun in their first start was simply stating that he’s better prepared which is a factual statement

We must have a QB whisperer on staff. Thanksgiving weekend he wasn’t even ready to come in and save one of the biggest chokes in recent memory.

There wasn't a point in the coot game where he should have come in.

I'm literally trying to move on from this but this coaching wants to rehash their decision making because they can admit when they're wrong. There were actually plenty of opportunities for Cade to come in. Say, when he's been under 40% completion that's a pretty good idea. When he isn't pushing any balls downfield and his mechanics and reading the field sucks, that's a pretty good idea of when to put Cade in.

In your opinion, what was the single worst play for DJU in the S.Carolina game?
If you can recall the quarter in which that worst play happened, then that would be great.

Yeah, I did not think so.
None of the juvenile DJU haters dare to attempt to identify the ‘worst’ DJU play because they don’t know enough about FB to recognize when the QB is responsible for the bad play vs when another player bears that responsibility.
It’s easier to just echo the ‘DJ man bad’ chant that they hear from their ignorant loud-mouthed friends.

He threw one end of the 1st quarter or beginning of 2nd that almost went end over end. A lot of the games I agree that DJ was probably our best option most of the year, but he has been inconsistent the whole time that he has been here. It was pretty obvious that he was off early in the SC game so why try to force the issue. Even if you leave him in, go run heavy instead of asking him to turn things around?

DJ played well for most of the season. After Syracuse and ND, he played great in the two games preceeding the chickens and we won in dominant fashion.
So why wouldn't we have started against the coots? Of course he should have remained the incumbent starter! We jumped on the coots pretty good and were leading 23-14 at halftime. We were winning the game until going down by 1 with 10 minutes left, and the starter who brought us to that point will always get a chance to win the game at that point. It's highly disappointing that he didn't, but the decision to trot him out there with 10 minutes left was the correct coaching call.
Dabo isn't lying to anyone. That's not his style. There are precedents for Dabo replacing the starting QB, so it's not thay he wouldn't have done it again if that was the best overall move for the program.
It sucked losing to those clowns. It was a brutal loss. But calling Dabo a liar about the season ("DJ was winning games while Cade was developing") is absurd. How long have you been following Dabo and his tenure at Clemson? He's wildly competitive and wants to win everything. It's ridiculous to suggest he had ulterior motives behind playing DJ, and plus fans wanting to be hindsight coaches need to get a grip and move on.
Go Tigers! Beat the Vols!

I'm not saying he's lying. I'm saying he's wrong. I do think he truly believes it. It just isn't true. Sorry, but 27% completion and throwing a pick with 4 minutes to go when you're up is hard to defend. If it was trevor sure. It's a guy who's been up and down. And down more than he's been up. Trying to say why wouldn't you trust him? Have you seen him play? Why WOULD you trust him. As soon as they started the comeback I said this game is over. And it was. Sorry you learned about DJ after a loss when we knew who he was before it.

DJ’s play against S.Carolina was not really bad until the final two series in Q4.
I know what I’m talking about because I’ve watched the full game replay 4 times, with each different viewing focusing upon OL, receiver (to the extent that WR play can be seen via TV coverage), and blocking by the RBs.
Two drives were ruined when our backup LG for Marcus Tate whiffed on blocking his DLineman.
WRs, for the most part, could not get separation. For the passes which were contested throws, our guys could not make the catch.
RBs blocked well enough, but our screen plays were well covered by SC’s LBs and DL.
And of course, there were the customary drops by our WRs.
Finally, the long pass to D.Allen which turned into an INT was intended as a jump ball route in which we were poised to take advantage of a mis-match against S.Carolina’s smaller DBs. Unfortunately, as the ball left DJU’s hand, D.Allen fell down. Had D.Allen not fallen, the pass would have come down within D.Allen’s catch radius. Maybe a completion; maybe not. But the pass would not have been a piece-of-cake INT had D.Allen not fallen.
This detail is important to understand when questioning a coach’s evaluation of his QB, and whether or not a substitution is merited.
We will never know if Dabo had intended to go with DJU had A.Williams not fumbled on that final punt return.
Details and analysis matters.

You get it.
Also, you clearly possess critical reading skills.
(*) Dabo said that, for his first start of the season, CK2 is more ready than any of other QBs in their first start.
Both D.Watson and T.Lawrence got their first STARTs before mid-way in their FR year.
C.Klubnik is getting his first start in GAME 14.
CK2 should know the WR routes better by game 14 than DW4 or Trevor did by ~ game 5.
CK2 should understand the blocking schemes better at this point in the season than DW4 and Trevor did by game 6.
(*) The key to CK2’s success will be his decision making. It is here where the rubber meets the road.

I would not say he played "well" or "great" discounting those games. You don't get to #85 in the country statistically by only having 3 bad games. He was mediocre in every game but 4, terrible in 3, and good in 1 against a bad defense.

OK then … we’d be 13 - 0 if CK2 had been playing all year during crucial moments of our games.
Quick … send your contact info to our AD and we’ll get the private jet to take you to Miami to coach the Orange Bowl game.

Mixed feelings on Dabo's words
Dec 30, 2022, 1:57 PM
|

If this is the case, it proves Cade should have been getting reps sooner than he did and Dabo blew it by holding him back.
On the other hand, it's good to hear Dabo publicly express confidence like this right before the game because he really means it.
In my book, Streeter should be under the gun just as much as Cade.

I will say this in my opinion Bryant was a better QB than Dj. I think the stats will show that. There was no hesitation to replace him. Clemson would have lost the A and M game without Bryant. Bryant quit the team immediately when he was replaced by Trevor. Dj would have quit the team immediately at any point he was repaced by Cade. This last statement had a lot to do with why DJ was not replaced earlier.

Clemson isn’t Duke or GA Tech; we don’t lose games now in order to give PT to backup players in hopes of not losing.
That is just the way it works.
Other than the BC game, we did not have a lot of ‘got it in the bag’ games in which CK2’s development could have been nurtured.
As for Streeter, what on earth did he do to keep CK2 off the field? Don’t tell me that CK2’s lack of readiness is due to Streeter being A bad coach.
If you really believe this, then CK2 will hit the portal immediately following the game tonight. If he’s been getting terrible coaching, then we should all expect him to bolt.
(When he doesn’t bolt, will you come back to this thread?)
