This is an extra bedroom which is seldom used, but we've recently painted and spruced up, which is when we noticed the water. Windows are from 1998, but this is the only one with this issue so far. Not sure that it makes sense to replace just this one, especially 2nd story dormer and roof is steep.

Thinking about drilling a hole up from the bottom to let the water drain out, and waiting till other windows deteriorate further before replacing. Is this just ridiculously halfast, or a reasonable temp solution? It looks like I'd be drilling in vinyl, then a metal frame that holds the glass. If the window is closed, nothing could get in that hole.

Reasonable. If you already have moisture in it anyway then drilling

isn't going to do anything worse. Will also let air in to dry it out and buy you some time IMO.

If you drill a hole, then you'll just get dust in between the windows and it will look even worse.

If you don't like the way teh window looks now, the only thing you can do is replace it.

It's not fogged up like some leaky windows, it's a 1/2" of water standing in

the bottom. I figure I'll replace all, or at least all of the front (gets the most sun/weather) windows in a few years, but I'm not getting out on that steep roof to replace that one, and I don't think I can hire anybody to do it either.

There are services now that do just that

Then inject a cleaning and drying agent in there before sealing the hole. I think Glass Guru is one of the franchises.

Obviously not as good as a new sealed window with argon or whatever, but better than foggy.

I haven’t used the one here but they do a ton of businesses and have a good reputation.

doesn't look like that franchise is around here, and not seeing another

Nov 9, 2023, 10:13 AM

at a glance. But I'll look around. As I said in post the same time as yours above, it's not the typical fog, it's 1/2" of slightly rusty water standing in the bottom. Thanks for the info though, never heard of that.

Covered the specifics with my #1 crew here, and they say

burn the house down and then dig up the foundation and donate it to a charitable organization like Reefs R Us, who will turn it into section 8 housing for fish.

Has to be section 8 because the windows in the place suck.
