Combine Training Camps

Jan 31, 2013, 11:20 AM

Have you ever noticed when a top NFL draft pick goes to one of these training camps before the Combine, that they get much bigger and stronger in a very short amount of time? I wonder if anyone at the university level has giving much thought to implementing the same type of Strength & Conditioning program for our football team?
Yes I understand that when they go to the training camp, it is all day, everyday work out (no school work, classes, football practice, etc.). However these training camps seem to know what they are doing and produce quality results in a short amount of time.

Just sayin.

Oh yeah…..FIRE JOEY BATSON!

Your assessment is not true

The players do not gain a considerable amount of strength or speed in this short time. These training facilities simply tell them what the guys at the combine are looking for and teach them how to do well in the combine (drills, form, etc.). They get to work out while they are there but it doesn't help their strength anymore than what they would get working out every day at Clemson.

Ignorant post of the day! These people specialize in tweaking the small stuff (getting good starts on 40, extra reach on vertical, perfect form running, etc.). None of them gain huge amounts of strength or speed. I bet u felt really smart when you thought you had figured this out. Another coach Batson hater...SMH. You don't have a clue what he does

LSU players hope Batson leaves also.

So tired of that argument

Jan 31, 2013, 11:44 AM

as if 1 game makes up for 10+ years. Logical arguments are great, but that one is just silly.

Read what Rex Ryan said about Batson, might want to think about your statement.

I stopped listening to anything Rex Ryan said about 3 promised Super Bowl Championships and 2 failed quarterbacks ago

Yeah, STS knows much more than he about S&C.***

NFL Scouts do

Jan 31, 2013, 1:14 PM

the ones who consistently evaluate our NFL prospects (particularly in the trenches) as "lacking functional strength" or "needs to get stronger"

Pro coaches knowing more than someone off the street??

Surely you jest.

You can read similar stories about 99% of college

Jan 31, 2013, 5:02 PM

S&C. Just pick and choose, real convenient.

Re: You can read similar stories about 99% of college

Find me stories like that from LSU or Alabama players and I'll listen. I don't care if a lot of schools have issues with S&C, we're trying to be the best so we should strive to be the 1% of college S&C instead of the 99%

Re: These

Jan 31, 2013, 3:05 PM

College and Nfl are two different animals. All of these guys dominated at Clemson against guys of the same age and development. Whatever, idk why I argue with you ppl. You are clueless. Batson won't be fired bc he's a great strength coach and even better man. So glad all of you ppl against him make ZERO decisions for the program

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You asked for a source

Jan 31, 2013, 3:25 PM

I provided it. Those guys dominated largely because of a combination speed, technique, and sheer force of will. Imagine how much better they would've been with the proper functional strength.

These evaluations don't necessarily compare the Clemson prospects to older, more experienced NFL players. They compare them to other members of their draft class, guys of the same age and development, to decide where they should be drafted.
