Heading to Littlejohn tomorrow - pre game dining options
Feb 1, 2021, 4:02 PM
|
|
Looking forward to traveling from Atlanta tomorrow afternoon to watch the UNC v Clemson bb game. This will likely be my one and only game I get to see live this season. I paid a pretty premium for the seats but it'll be worth it.
Any suggestions for a pre game meal? I usually stop in Seneca and grab some bbq at Little Pigs. Open for other ideas.

Why? I doubt even 2,000 people will be in attendance on a Tuesday night.
Bring in 3 cans for the food drive and you can operate the scoreboard if you like.

Welcome to Clemson

I hope you have a safe trip to Tigertown. If it’s your first trip I hope you have time to walk around our campus and meet the students. I’m anxious to hear how your visit goes to Littlejohn. It’s rare that visitors complain of the way they are received at Clemson.
I must confess. I will be rooting for your team to lose badly, but in a nice way!

With Covid not sure I would want to be walking around a campus and meeting the students especially at my age.

I’ve been to Clemson many times and have enjoyed walking the campus.
I really like Littlejohn as well - particularly post renovations. There’s really not a terrible seat in the arena. I think the lack of available tickets really has pushed up the demand - hence the high prices. Plus, Clemson and FSU are the only places in the league where ordinary fans can watch a game.

Then if we have a glorious victory ... we MUST have a glorious victory ... losing is NOT an option
You then postgame drive to Rick Irwin's, NOW in Clemson and have a proper, fine meal.

Great food and drinks. My favorite is the Renfrow dozen wings, which of course means you get 13. If you can get there early enough you might be able to get Tajh to give you a tour of the place.

If you are looking for upscale dining, I would go with Rick Erwin's or Pixie and Bill's. If you like a hole-in-the-wall place with great ribs and the like, try Sardi's Den.

That’s a no on Sardi’s den. I got potato skins there and the bottom of them were frozen solid but the top was hot. It was good at first but declined over time.

don’t want to spend much money, but who are new to Charleston and want to eat downtown at a long-standing Charleston restaurant.
It isn’t fine dining, but it is a Charleston institution that predates most other restaurants currently there.
Not sure what that has to do with Clemson though.

No one should go to Hymans in charleston for any reason, especially to eat. Too many better choices, as in any other restaurant that one could choose.

Esso Club has great bar food and lots of Clemson memorabilia.

It is the quintessential college town bar. It’s also very close to the arena.
For fine dining, Rick Erwin’s is great. It is the kind of restaurant you would expect to find in a much larger city.

The Esso Club has great food but you may need to get there early even though it is Tuesday. We were there before the Virginia game and it was packed but it was a Saturday.

If you normally eat at Little Pigs, it sounds like The Esso Club would be your best bet. Decent bar food and a good atmosphere.

I didn’t see anyone mention Paesano’s in Seneca. It’s a great family owned Italian restaurant with other options...Pizza is awesome!

Thanks for all the input. I think my friend and I will keep it simple and enjoy a pre-game meal (and adult beverage) at the Esso Club. I've never eaten there since it's always been so packed prior to football and basketball games. The limited capacity should keep the crowd down this evening.
