Building Collapse - New Video and Info
Jul 1, 2021, 10:10 AM
|
|
For those that are interested, a new video came out yesterday proving that portions of the pool deck (garage roof) collapsed 7 minutes before the building. I think it's pretty clear what happened now. The pool deck falling in damaged those 3 columns and they eventually buckled. The video can be seen with this guys explanation/clarification again here ...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUrHdwdZyWc
They interviewed the couple that shot that video last night. Their legs were chewed up from all the tiny flying debris hitting them. I would think the gap in the video is that they did not want to show the people that came out on their balconies before the building came down but the wife said last night that some were there and then you could hear her crying that they are all dead now. Heartbreaking stuff! The other day I said the only saving grace was that these people did not know what happened to them in their sleep. It appears that some were awakened by the pool deck collapse. I was hoping this was not the case. Again heartbreaking stuff and praying for the families!

had it been just those 3 columns, the building would have leaned into them and fallen over, not straight down. For this theory to hold true, there would have had to have been a ton of other contributing factors and this would have only been the triggering event that contributed to the rest of the failure.
JMHO.

I have to say that this is funny, even tho the general subject is not. Could not believe my post the other day turned into a 9/11 truther discussion. Wow!

Plus, if you just use common sense, why would fireproofing be applied to structural steel if a building fire could not get hot enough to damage the steel. Really makes you wonder about those folks!

No, this is just Obed Mocking hos fellow alumn for his own amusement, it is one of the responsibilities of being a member Clemson's Ring of Honor.
And obed, I took 3 years of structural engineering to your zero. You are in no more a position to call my opinion a conspiracy than I am to tell you how to kick a soccer ball.

I was making a joke about the way the thread went the other day and trying to have a friendly exchange with you. As normal over the last many years, you couldn’t handle it. I really do wonder if you have a condition that causes difficulty in reading people and having normal interactions.

You just referred to my opinion on the matter as a conspiracy. What part am I missing? And for the record, Jet fuel does NOT in Fact Burn Hot enough to Melt steel. it does burn hot enough to compromise its integrity.

I said on here about 5 years ago thatj et Fuel does not burn hot enough to melt steel, and I am correct. However I was not taking it to the point that was saying 9/11 was an inside job, just stating a fact, and I have to take crap for it 5 years later. Unless someone else specifically mentioned these exact words on the other thread...obed is not being sincere.

Oh ok, got it. Regardless, jet fuel may not MELT steel and maybe neither does a building fire. Both, I would imagine could compromise the structural integrity of the steel and hence the added expense of .... fireproofing. Neal, what has your experience in fire damaged steel buildings shown you over the years?

jet fuel quote now? One of the most ubiquitous and well-known of reasons provided by 9/11 hoaxers? No. I assure you, I surely don't remember you ever said that, and if I did read it by you, it's gotten mixed in over time with the hundreds of thousands of people who say the same thing, so it was a generic attempt to reference the 9/11 conspiracy thread.
This really is like trying to joke around with rain man.

First, this thread was intended to be humor, but I feel like a mediocre comic bombing at a forensic CPA convention.
Secondly, as we have again discussed a ton of times over the last 20 years, I think there's probably a lot more to the story than we know about 9/11, as it seemed to be a little too simple and have a bit too neat of a bow put on it, but I also don't believe, absent more evidence than I've seen, that the US/Bush/Cheney/CIA were the ones who bombed/missiled/imploded our own people. I'm not saying it's unintelligent to believe thusly, but I do think that jumping to that conclusion with the evidence at hand requires a level of cynicism I don't possess.

The 600+ pages from the 9/11 Commission Report was total BS... They didn't even address WTC7.
P.S. I AM a 9/11 "cynic".

Ok, I ended our discussion the other day with "neither will convince the other so this exercise is pointless. Just wish you were a UGA fan so I could have some inherent distain for you, but nope, so have a good one!" Same goes for today, love ya as a fellow Tiger brother, but I agree with Obed and please don't hijack this thread with a boxcutter today. Pun intended.

Re: Building Collapse - New Video and Info

You have to remember that this is a concrete framed building. The rebar from the pool deck/garage roof ties into those columns. If the pool deck goes, it damages the columns at the connection and there is no longer bracing in that one direction and they span two levels at that point and ultimately buckle towards the void. When they buckle, everything comes straight down. The reason I think it's all 3 columns is that this is where the building initially failed across that entire line(even though the guy in the video doesn't want to say that yet). If it had been one column only, I think there would have been a small delay from the initial failure point to the surrounding columns(the video would have looked slightly different). There is not a lot of redundancy and if you lose one column in a concrete framed building it will likely bring the whole thing down. A steel framed building would not generally act the same as we all saw in the WTC when several outer steel columns were severed and the loads were distributed around the area. Having said that, there are still likely multiple contributing factors.

buckling load is proportional

To the square of the unbraced length of the column. Double the column height and the allowable load gets cut by 4
