They played an excellent game last night. They won they game by being better than Bama. Good for UGA.

You (BigCUFan®) and Jcantrell86® (poster below) got that right ... with Metchie out and then J.Williams out in 2nd Qtr, Alabama lost players who accounted for 164 receptions, 2587 yards, and 23 TDs (over 13 regular season games), of course B.Young was not going to be as effective.
Not that the if this / if that speculation means anything, but with Bama being so close (8 points down late in Q4) WITHOUT Metchie and Williams, I believe that Bama would have beaten UGA again if those two had been healthy.
Oh well ...
But B.Young had a fine game.

Missing two 1000 yard receivers was the reason. Bama looked like Clemson when they only had average WR on the field. BY looked like a Heisman player in the SEC championship game.

Umm, ok
Jan 11, 2022, 10:52 AM
|
|
1) Bama had 30 yards rushing on 28 carries so they couldn't run the ball at all to help him out
2) He was without both of his really good WRs.
3) He was running for his life most of the night. Early on he managed to get out of the pocket and make plays, but in the 2nd half that pressure was getting home

Reminded me of DJ against UGA. Playing with no running game, offensive line getting abused, and no legit threats at WR. Amazing how much different a QB looks without a running game, legit WRs, and a good offensive line.

i don't think there was a heisman caliber player this year
Jan 11, 2022, 11:20 AM

he won it by default. Default means..we don't know..so we'll pick someone from the current #1 team. Who else was there this year? The field was not very talent rich this year.

Over 4000 yards and 45 tds isn’t Heisman worthy? That’s hilarious.

Didn't say he wasn't a good player but stats are there for
Jan 12, 2022, 9:12 AM

the taking when the team is head and shoulders better than everyone they play. Go to Ohio State and be their QB. You'll get comparable stats even if your name is JT Barrett. And its QB after QB that plays there.
But was he dominant in his ability or was he just a good player in a good situation? There's usually a no doubter or special quality to certain players and this year i didn't see that player. When you have a down year you go with the statline of the best player on the best team. Just an opinion. I've only been watching this stuff for 30 years so maybe I need a couple more to really "get it."

IMO, the only good heisman candidate this year was Pickett. Everyone else wouldn’t be even considered in the running if this was in 2015 or 2018.

Sorry .... you don't know what you are talking about! UGA got way more pressure on him than the last game ..... no running game ...... new receivers were not up to the task as per their two best receivers who were not playing.

Not to mention that Bama had their two starting corners out. They also lost 3 running backs in November. They lost a starting olineman in the Cincy game. They also were missing a linebacker from the first time against uga. So yeah, as we all know, injuries happen but it was unfortunate for Bama timing didn't allow for adjustments.
Now to Georgia's credit, Dan lanning took a page out of BV notebook and brought heat from everywhere. So imo, it probably shouldn't have been as close as it was given the position injuries Bama had at the end of the season.

I think he played great without his two best receivers and an ok OL going up against one of the better defenses in college football history. His young receivers dropped some balls. That guy is a stud. He is going up to be great and is already actually. I didn't see a better QB in college last year.

No wide out help and Bama could not run the football. Both of those factors = Fail. I wonder where we would have ended up had we not found our ground game late in the season. It would not have been pretty.

My very unexpert opinion of Bryce Young.
1. He is an outstanding QB when he can stand in the pocket with minimal pressure. 2. He is an average QB when he is under pressure in the pocket. 3. He is an average QB when he if forced to leave the pocket in order to avoid pressure.
He needs an outstanding OL to perform at a high level.

And, like any QB, he needs WRs that catch the ball when it hits them in the hands.

ask DJ how it feels to be without your top 2 receivers much less 7 of them.

Georgia won, Bama did not (this time) and main reason was that Dawgs D was as advertised and that Bennett |V played over his head.
Did I get that right? ??

I don’t know what game you watched.. Lanning made sure he was constantly pressured and he still made next-level throws. His WRs let him down all night
